  1. Orkney... When we got the late ferry to Kirkwall from Aberdeen, I always ended up driving the minibus (12 SCUBA divers plus kit) the last few miles from Kirkwall to Stromness - that sign (just after Finstown) was the signal to ring the skipper and get him to get the kettle on! (Given it was over eight miles off the main drag - we always wondered if they kept the sign just for tourists...)
  2. See Ofcom Guidance as linked to by Jen - "The moderators have a liking for OFCOM's research on acceptable language in broadcasting." - You may (or may not) find it offensive - I may (or may not) find it offensive. Tw@t is in the "moderate" category from Ofcom which I treat as "depending on context" (and thanks for the side discussion while I was typing on the merits of Tw@ versus Tw@t) From a personal perspective (not as a Mod) the forum would improve if language was kept reasonable - there are other, less offensive words than S#!t for what comes out of a pump out; use them!
  3. Whilst possibly an acceptable word to describe "excrement" - the one's who are stirring are those who keep repeating the word...
  4. Thanks for reporting back - you'd be amazed how many people don't...
  5. I presume talking about RCR rather than the engine the OP mentioned?
  6. If I'm allowed to slightly hijack the thread, I have a Patio Gas cylinder marked "13 kG Propane" which has a built-in gauge, currently reading "Hi" [the alternative end of the scale is "Lo"] - (I don't know if the smaller cylinders are the same, but this Patio Gas had a weird regulator with a knob which on first activation clamps the regulator to the cylinder and on the second turns the gas on - there is no manual valve on the cylinder) The BBQ went to the great kitchen in the sky last month - If a boater in the Wolverton area wants the cylinder - it's free, and I want to get rid. I can deliver (say) between Fenny Lock (or Willowbridge marina) and Cosgrove - ish; if close by, please ask.
  7. Good! I thought I might get a few comments on the first 1,000 images on this forum - I got nearly 250 (for obvious reasons, mostly waterways related.) If I can get another 250 on Ian's railway images, it'll save me getting bored while @magpie patrick gets the next batch in the post!
  8. I've joined Railforums - same Username as here I've not posted yet - I'll have a look around, see if there is any existing mention of either ROMA or Ian Moss first.
  9. I've now updated all 243 images that I've had identifiable comments for - the only ones I've knowingly left out are the VHF Channel Numbers on the Rhine, which I will add when I've done a bit of research. The next batch of slides are being packed as I type - watch this space...
  10. Not quite off topic. Many years ago, I nearly wrote off our Isuzu 3.1 TD Short Wheelbase. At the time, I subscribed to the disconnect battery "myth". We talked a local garage into fixing the (rear end shunt) damage for less than the insurance write off cost, and they did a wonderful job. When I picked the car up, I thought "attention to detail" - they have set the clock after disconnecting the battery On the way home, I turned the radio on - it wasn't locked; and was still on Radio 2. I checked - "no sir, we don't bother disconnecting the battery, if you do the job right it makes no difference".
  11. I can't do any better than quote the previous poster - so I have...
  12. Apologies for what must seem like slow progress - I'm staggered by the response on this forum... I've updated around 200 titles (and moved many images) from the original 1,100 or so. Anyone visiting Ian's Archive can see where we've got to. Having said that, I'm only up to comments (whether by email, on my website or on this forum) up to Monday 14th August... Five days to go - by which time more comments will have arrived. (If it seems slow, I'm also keeping a spreadsheet of who commented what and when so If I get two comments on the same image I can quickly cross reference) And I understand @magpie patrick is heading home with another 3,000+ slides for scanning - watch this space.
  13. This post cannot be displayed because it is in a forum which requires at least 10 posts to view.
  14. The answer will depend on the individual: - A "people person" will put large labels saying "start" and "stop" An electrical engineer will design a complex circuit around not energising the Starter Motor while the Alternator is charging A hydraulic engineer will design a contraption with a small sprung piston to prevent pushing the "start" button while there is oil pressure A lawyer will have a single sign "I warned you" A software developer will have a Raspberry Pi or Arduino with an algorithm based upon battery volts, temperature and noise level to block the starter circuit. This will later be implicated in not allowing you to start then engine when moored near a weir... And - you think you have a problem... Read the account of landing a B17 at the end of a bombing mission...So Long
  15. There's a search function - on the top blue menu bar... Search for "100168" I suspect I've moved the image (I'm gradually catching up with comments and moving images as appropriate)
  16. The next 2,000 may be up in a month - yet more early mornings for me... but thank you... Thanks for looking...
  17. Confession time - I restored "Mancrop" to its correct title (based on the filename) without actually noting which filename it was! it's presumably not 100058, 100036, 100039 etc but could you possibly have another look? Thanks (in advance)
  18. I have edited a number of entries and hidden one or two more because of repeated use of a specific four-letter word - The OP may not have known the rules; those who responded do (or should do) Please desist - Thank you
  19. 100207 - I can't see a name except part of "way out" and what might be "ladies". On the other hand, there can't be too many British stations where the entire platform is so low they provide multiple sets of steps for passengers!
  20. Please do - they may be low hanging for you but require a long ladder for me!
  21. Many thanks all - I've added all the comments given via my website and am now working through comments on this forum. Well over 100 comments (with some duplicates) for 1,000 images. Much appreciated - we'll hit you with the next 1,000 images soon... (some delay was caused by "reversing" or "flipping" images - it's by far the slowest part of the process and caches of the "unflipped" version get everywhere!)
  22. Thanks Ken I'm still ploughing through the above suggestions (plus others who have made comments on my site) When I've finished I'd welcome an introduction to railforums.co.uk - I thank you for your offer of posting but don't want to saddle you with copying back 40 odd responses as with CWF! - on the other hand I don't want to be a "new member" waiting for someone to approve my post...
  23. Thanks John (and many others) - I hadn't expected such a hit rate in the first 24 hours or so! This morning - I'll collate all the comments and move / caption / flip as required. As @magpie patrick some are in the wrong album simply because I have not got round to it yet - others; I started with a relatively simple structure then "fiddled" as I started to populate it. For example, I started with two folders "canal" and "river" which became three with the addition of "craft" (and became subfolders of "waterways"), four with the addition of "posters and exhibits" and then "canal" became "UK canal", "river" became "UK river" and added "Overseas" (as the distinction [at least to me] is much less clear cut on the continent). That's how I ended up with some overseas images in the wrong folder... Thanks again everyone.
