  1. Towards the end of 1973 I moved from a bedsit off Penny Lane into a shared house in Wavertree with a Bob Keaveney, and the owner ?? Boyce. Both of them were canal fanatics, being led by their parents (One was Mr Keaveney of the PFCS). They got me to come along to various WRG work parties and helping move the Boyce's plastic cruiser from somewhere on the L & L near Liverpool, to Wigan and then down towards the T & M. I then had a weekend with the Keaveney's on their narrow boat on the Maccesfield (I think). That's when it really got into the blood. After we got married I introduced my wife to the canals with a 2 week hire doing the Cheshire Ring with her brother and his girlfriend in 1978, then hired a couple of times with friends until we had kids. Kept the interest going by visiting canals, and when I worked in Birmingham often having lunch at various canalside car parks. I was selling then I managed to get quite a few canal businesses as customers, which once gave us a free weekend on a Black Prince boat that had been stopped at Evesham by floods, and which John wanted back towards Stoke Prior before Sunday night. We managed it! We then bought a timeshare with a small company, but finally gave that up 2 years ago as it was starting to get expensive and didn't fit into the annual leave criteria that is impossed on me. Hoping next year to hire on the Brecon & Monmouth as it is one canal I know but never been on.
  2. In South Wales the narrow ones are "alleys" and ones wide enough for a car are "lanes".
  3. Only 2. 1/ What a stupid place to put the battery master switches! 2/ You should be taking this up with the complaints department of your insurance company or the insurance omburdsman, and not on a public forum.

  6. She looks in a lot better condition than when I last saw her! Wasn't she hog-backed? Didn't Gary & Vera Aspey have a part-share in her at one time?

  8. Yes, because you are spouting rubbish!
  9. 112 and 999 work in exactly the same way. They both go to the nearest Control Centre, (or if busy the next available). Applies using mobile or landline systems. The "global positioning" from the mobile is another myth as this function is not used in the UK by any of the mobile systems. The only thing that can be done, using either number, is to know the "cell" in which the phone is being used. It "might" apply in some parts of Europe.

  12. As I understand it he cannot make a profit on his metered charge, which is why a lot of places also charge a service charge. For some reason I can't get on to Google at the moment (Stupid work system) but Dave's figure appears high. The local Elec Board will give you a rough idea of what it should be.
  13. Since the landlord is as he is, has anyone checked the rate at which he is metering the electricity, as the price for that is fixed by legislation.

  16. I do think the spelling mistake in the title is so apt.
