  1. One thing for sure. The inability to answer a simple question without prevarication & going around the houses is a sure sign of an 'engineer'! Us humble techs would have said wet cell & left it at that. Where's me coat.
  2. So what's the verdict? Sealed or open wet cell battery's?
  3. Could consider dropping the fuse size in extension to say 5A [circa 1250w] so that if left & something went awry there is a better chance of protection?

  5. Have heard of some experiments using UV to kill the dreaded Diesel bug but never found out if any success. Maybe this has caused some misunderstanding? Strangely was reading this thread yesterday;- http://www.canalworld.net/forums/index.php?showtopic=80008
  6. Anyway. Back to the OP's question. Found this on PB website that may help answer your question. http://solarwindturbinebatteries.co.uk/useful-tips/ Simple English Admttedly aimed at off grid installs but that would include us.

  8. Some refer to it as C rating. If you see C20 = 20hrs C5 = 5hrs etc. Dunno why just have this in the back of my mind so could be totally wrong

    Pewsey Wharf

Wessex Rose does indeed move. Pewsey is one of the change over points I believe. So they are here every few weeks for a day or so on the 48's Dave.[Vox] Will be good to see you again! Mind you supposedly after Crimbo phase II Starts where the 48's are re-furbished so that boats can get their arses nearer than 6ft from the bank and the rings don't fall in the cut when used. Mind you the 14 dayers are likely to be untouched I expect. As usual all comments and timeframes are the product of chinese whispers and the stuff of dreams.

I'm sure certain members of the boat club will support as long as the livers hold out!

    Pewsey Wharf

The wharf structure is basically washed away below the waterline. Maybe down to boats winding as its circa 50' wide there. When they only get half way and jam up they give it a load on the 'loud pedal' and over time the brickwork has washed away [well sunk to the bottom] So they are damming either side of wharf under brige & past the slipway so as to re-furbish. So slipway will also be out of use. ps at the moment the Elsen is also 'behind' the fence so also may be inaccessible?

    Pewsey Wharf

Well the contractors appeared today and the safety fencing is up. They look like they are starting to dam on the 9th. 2/3rds of car park also fenced so parking is VERY limited. Bar & Bistro still open though Note pump out & tap will be inaccessible once dams in place.

  15. Pretty well the same layout as mine although I'm a fatboat & have a corridor. Stove in front so that would keep Salon & bedroom warm in winter. When guests aboard they can enter either end without entering bed or bathroom so ensuring some privacy. Layout works for me really well. Have a look at as many layouts as you can & consider what would work for you. Not what works for everyone else. Of course if it isn't usual layout this may affect resale which could be why an 'attractive' price? The darker marks could be as simple as something damp has been left laying there? If that was from say, a sinking, i would expect a bit more mould damage elsewhere. Also a springy floor. Edit-Fit out doesn't look too shabby. Wait till you see some of them out there

  18. Talking to a CRT guy tuesday who was trying to refill the pound after the Caen hill event & game plan is Swing bridge open on or about the 9th nov. There is then a stoppage at Pewsey wharf [Damming off] to repair the Wharf. This is due to start also on the 9th so may well be delayed a week or so to let traffic through. The wharf to re-open christ-mass time. Then the VM's to be repaired after. Note;- this was just a couple of blokes chatting on the towpath not the gospel truth. Expect reality to plus or minus a month or so on all dates Of course the damage caused at Caen hill may divert some funds? See the flight is shut again.
  19. Have 4 off Kyocera 235w panels [theoretical 940w] 24v. In past 30 days best 98Ah worst 3.8Ah. Morningstar 45 mppt.
  20. Hire boat came past this afternoon. Engine running quite hard for his speed. Chap on towpath tells him to put in reverse for a squirt. He does so and then goes off at a normal pace leaving a swirling flurry of dead leaves and silt. Are we the first and can we claim the donut?
  21. Laurie;- Scavenger went past us [Pewsey] a couple of weeks back going eastward with' The Jacksons' on board so still about. 22. Hi. Boat is on the River Lea. Found this on a website;- The navigational depth on these waterways is, on average, 1.15m (3'6”) A Tjalk would probably be of a similar depth. Also if it can move along on the Lea should be ok for your requirements? Last one I was on was 3'3" [1m] deep in but was Iron [and overplated] so may have sat a bit deeper Beautiful boats but a 'labour of love' to keep up together. TBH I wanted a Tjalk this time around but eventually went for a 'narrowboat' style widebeam [11'5"] as easier to maintain. Headroom inside can also be an issue on some. Remember looking at one where the forward cabin had less than 5' headroom!
  23. Did the fault occur just after this event? Edit: Might have mis-read. Is this a permenant meter or test meter?
