  2. Sorry mate. Just that I don't trust dipsticks to tell truth. Only correct amount in. Eg I do know that Some Yamaha engines dipsticks only read right if unscrewed. others when screwed in. Hondas have small wet sump capacities so small oil usage shows really quickly. Think I am a post behind here. Will keep quiet. Poxy connection.
  3. Came out too quick there! If switch ok then probably rings or valve guides/valve guide seals.[if fitted] These perish and engine will happily sip oil and give little indication of smoke. Must add that not had a baby Honda apart for some time hence unsure of guide seal type.[if any]
  4. empty out oil and put right amount in [top of head 240-250cc] If it runs ok level switch ok! Or am I looking at this too simply?

  6. Buy a canal watch. An hour in real time becomes a day in canal time. Tomorrow becomes next week etc.. Normally when 'help' is offered . Also no matter what you think something will cost double it!
  7. Just a thought. What size are your Trojans? [Ah] Series Paired up for 12V and 3 banks? Maybe your bank size is miss-calculated. Series up of batteries won't increase your Ah. Example:- 110Ah at 6v each x2 =110Ah at 12V. You just deplete them slower.
  8. OOps! Another vowel please Bob! Still it seems to hang [sic] together quite well. Either way.
  9. If you are feeling cold just stand on the back deck for 5 minutes [or 1 fag, whichever the shorter] Then go back to bed. Immediately it feels warmer! Everything's relative. It does show that no matter how much research someone may do the reality is always different. Sometimes better, sometimes worse. At least you are sorting thongs before the Winter arrives! [P.S. I'll have the ecofan]

  16. Observation only. Pump outs always seem to be listed as expensive. [circa £15 a go] whereas cassettes are free. However I notice a lot of people driving around to find an elsan or public loo for emptying when points are few and far.[Vehicle owners that is] They never seem to allow for the costs involved [fuel, etc.] let alone time. I know there will be claims now that we all empty out whilst going elsewhere but not honestly the case. I reckon my pump out actually saves me in the long run. As an example my nearest elsan at the moment is about 4 miles away. A bit far to lug a cassette or two. Not on any direct route that I use. Therefore I would have to make a specific detour to use. Ergo not actually free.
  17. Have a look. The more you see the more you'll get a feel for. I spent 18 months travelling from Reading to Lancashire and saw dozens of boats. Kept comparing them to the 3rd boat I had seen. Eventually the penny dropped and that was the one I now live on! When the right one appears you'll know. As Betty B. says, I bought up North[to me] & low loaded down to Caversham. About 15-20% difference in price made the road haulage seem a bargain at the time. As an aside if no inverter fitted allow about £2k for a decent 2500-3000w unit with all that kit. Then the batteries... then the solar... etc, etc, etc.
  18. Strangely typing Electric canal boats into google produced a few! http://www.electric-boat-association.org.uk/members.htm
  19. I think it is also bent..... Been winding them k&a paddles again! An actual constant mover?
  20. Remember that if you undersize you will end up buying/spending twice + if you need to increase. Buy the best you can afford rather than the cheapest you can find! Usually [not always] ends being the most economical in long term. Tri-rated Cable is so called because it meets the requirements of three different international standards not that it can take 3 X current I think. [Prepare to be proved wrong!]
  21. Believe to be a Turkish pepper mill handle. Saw one today very similar Have photo but can't be ar technically challenged http://www.canalworld.net/forums/uploads/gallery/album_1229/gallery_19371_1229_19128.jpg http://www.canalworld.net/forums/uploads/gallery/album_1229/gallery_19371_1229_35187.jpg
  22. Have you had solar for long? unfortunately volts don't equal watts with them. Perhaps smart gauge has been 'confused' by the panels? Were they installed after SGauge set up & how?
