  1. Its the bridge out of the Cas lock going in the direction of Ferrybridge. We are moored up there too. River is down a lot this morning but canal was well up yesterday.
  2. Ahh...thats probably it then. Thanks . Just with the money being debited from my account this month I wrongly assumed the licence would be for this month.
  3. Morning Just got my auto renewal email, 'thank you for purchasing you licence blah de blah de blah.....'. Out of interest I clicked on the linky to check everthing and found that the price they have charged me for a 12 month licence is not the amount that is in their published list of fees on their website which they say is valid from April 1st 2017 to March 30th 2018. The years fee they have charged (£910.20) does not even appear on the list. Just wondering if any one else has had any issues? I have of course emailed to query it.
  4. Just wondering if anyone knows a part number for a replacement for this. I have looked on line but can't see any where the double bolt holes are at ten to two to the outlet. Thanks in advance to any one that can help.
  5. I take note of the 'Do not consult for the sake of it' part of this statement. Surely this is at odds with the fact that FOI requests have shown that C&RT in fact did not receive any complaints regarding the current system of licencing and therefore the whole basis for having the consultation based on 'complaints received' is at very best dubious.
  6. A couple that moor down from me had the same issue. I have attached a linky to their blog (a good read if you have time ) http://narrowboatellis.blogspot.co.uk/2017/07/rotten-egg-carbon-monoxide-alarms-going.html
  7. We bought our barge knowing that the northern waterways were built for, and are still suitable for a boat of it size. The people that knowingly drop a wide beam onto a canal that was not designed to take it, really can't complain about about lack of movement or demand a discount. The same argument can be used for people that currently get a discount for un-connected waterways. Their choice so why claim a discount.
  8. Fortunately, the canals around me were originally built for commercial traffic (Aire & Calder, Castleford, Goole etc) Had they not been suitable then we probably would not have made the same boat choices. As for can the locks here accommodate more than one historic barge, then yes as they are both wide and long.
  9. Not saying you are right or wrong, just wondering at you reasons for it being fair or unfair. I used to have a narrow boat, now I have a historic barge which is wide. I don't use the C&RT facilities any more than I used to, my boat still uses the same length mooring to moor up. The only difference now is that there are many areas of the network as a whole that I am no longer able to travel. It was my personal choice to buy this boat and the trade off between less access to the network and keeping some of the history of the canals alive is worth it to me.
  10. I agree, but I also think this will encourage more CM'ers. Why would someone choose to pay a few thousand pounds a year for a mooring when they can move in a limited area, use all the facilities within this area and still probably be better off than if they were paying for the mooring? In my case they would need to raise my licence by just under 400% to make this a more expensive option than having to pay for my mooring.
  11. Received and filled out the survey last night. I found issues with the way some of the questions were worded. For instance Q24 - one of the options was - Introduce – at a higher fee – a new licence that would permits boats without a home mooring to remain within a limited area (provided they satisfy the Trust concerning their bona fide navigation) In my mind this is just encouraging CM'ers which is one of the issues that C&RT are currently trying to discourage. Personally I currently pay C&RT for my licence and for my mooring. If they were to go down this route there is a high likelihood I would give up my mooring and move my boat around this 'limited area' as the chances are that even if they lift the license fee for this option it will still work out far cheaper than my licence and mooring combined. I can see C&RT actually losing money on their mooring sales if this is the case.
  12. Saw this and think it may be a little over priced .
  13. http://www.screwfix.com/p/labgear-tv-aerial-high-gain-48-element/30515 this is what we use. Not big tv watchers but if we do want to watch something this picks up all of the freeview channels so we have around 50 channels of crap to choose from
  14. thanks Dor ...Alan, not sure the Mrs will go for that one. She's been waiting 18 months for running water on this boat
  15. Looking at getting a new waterpump for freshwater soon and as we have been happy with the Whale Universal pump on the last boat, we were thinking of going the same route again. Having looked online at specs I am struggling to find out what the electric draw is on them when they are 'active'. Anyone know where I can find this info or suggestions for other pumps that are not too power hungry?

  17. The first of these 'consultation' meetings was held in Leeds last week. I did put my name down for a place as we have a rather wide historic boat and are watching this consultation closely. Didn't get a place unfortunately but a friend on a neighboring boat did and we discussed opinions before he went. Apparently of the places allocated and confirmed, only 6 people turned up, one of which had traveled all the way from London. There were a couple of business boaters and a couple of CCers among the 6. My friend did inquire as to why the attendance was so low if 15 places had been allocated and whether, like the gentleman from London, people maybe had too far to travel (Not sure why they would confirm their places if this was the case, but hey ). The company holding the meeting said they would look into this before the next meeting was held elsewhere in the country. Overall it appeared to be a general throwing around of ideas as to what might or might not work licencing wise in the future. The general consensus was that 'if it ain't broke, don't fix it' but all ideas would be forwarded to C&RT as part of the consultation.
  18. Hi I am looking for a replacement water pump for our engine which I believe is a Ford D 4 cylinder with a Parsons Pike conversion. Any one know where I can get one and what part I need to order please. I have googled but none of them have looked quite right. I have attached photos below. Thanks in advance for any help on this.
  19. Thanks guys for all these suggestions, it gives me more to look into.
  20. The pump out is equipment is on the side of the canal next to the waterpoint in a cabinet which requires a BW key. The card operated box is in the same building as the showers etc. Not got a pump out ourselves but I believe it gives about 15 minutes. Water pressure is not great so if you can, time it for when no one is at the water point.
  21. Thanks for both of those suggestions Pluto, it gives me something else to go on. I will check these out.
  22. thanks for those links max's son and for getting back to me so fast. I have seen those articles during my research. I was more interested in records or listings of boats built during the 1930s at the yard so I can clafify if she was built there.
  23. Hi I am looking for any information re J S Watson shipyard in Gainsborough. Despite looking I a struggling to get much information from anywhere. Since buying our current boat we have been trying to find more info on when and where she was built. The information we have so far is that she was originally built for the City of York Corporation as a grab dredger during the 1930s. We have photos of this stage of her working life but no solid information of who did the build. Having seen her and the quite distinctive shape of her bow, it was suggested that she might have been built at the Watson yard in Gainsborough. Having found a couple of pictures of boats built there at around the same time, I can see a similarity in the bow shape. Unfortunately getting any further info about the shipyard is proving difficult. Its a long shot, but does anyone have, or know where I can get any further info on the shipyard. Thanks in advance Sweeny Todd
  24. Just received this email from C&RT. I am not sure whether this is for information, whether it means I am one of the lucky 'above inflation rises' and not entirely clear as to when this increase will kick in. Anyone have any further info? Dear Customer Canal & River Trust – Waterside Mooring Price Review 2017 The Trust provides and manages approximately 3600 long term leisure and residential moorings in England and Wales as part of its discretionary commercial business activities. This represents approximately 11% of the current long term moorings provision – in other words, there are many other private providers of moorings who we are effectively in competition with. The income raised through moorings makes a vital contribution towards the substantial costs of caring for the 200+ year old historic and fragile waterway infrastructure – it requires considerable maintenance, care and attention to ensure future generations are able to appreciate and enjoy the waterways. The Trust must operate its long term moorings within a strict legal framework which ensures that we comply with UK competition law at all times. The prices we charge for our long term leisure and residential moorings must be set by reference to market rates. This means that moorings cannot be subsidised. The waterside mooring sales website has now been operating for 15 months. Sales have been exceptional with many selling above the guide price. We are currently at 97% capacity. We have used the sales results to help assess the level of the price increases. The majority of sites will see a 2.7% increase based on the projected inflation rate for 2017. RPI for January 2017 is already at 2.6%. Sites where we have seen an increased demand via our sales website or where we have made substantial investment will see an above inflation increases. Sites which are still proving to be unpopular will have their prices held. In summary, 3% of sites will in real terms have no increase. 57% will see an inflationary increase only. 40% of sites have been increased between 1% and 3% above inflation. We will only write to customers on those sites where there has been an above inflation increase. NB Price increases will only apply to those customers who are currently on 12 month contracts. 3 year contracts are not affected. For those customers with end of garden moorings (where the moorings is adjacent to their residential property) or those moored on farmers’ fields, as in the past their permit prices will increase in line with their local ‘indexed’ mooring site. Yours sincerely Jenny Whitehall Head of Directly Managed Moorings
