  1. the oil pressure warning light/buzzer has started to come on at idle. It's ok with some rpm on and when cold but once warm as soon as i put it in idle the warning sounds. Any ideas, sender unit? oil pump? It's a vetus M4.14
  2. My wedding ring :-(( Coincidentally mrs c lost her wedding ring whilst swimming in a river in the south of France. So we've both lost our wedding rings in water!!!!
  3. Good luck and have a great time. I'm only slightly jealous !!! Didn't make it to the pub til late last Saturday as I was working and you where gone by then. I
  4. A work colleague asked me why I choose to live on a boat when we have a perfectly good house much closer to work. My answer was ' it just feels right'
  5. I'd guess we charge the laptop about every 2 days on average for a couple of hours. Half our lights are now LED, we run engine for 30 mins each day for hot water. Inverter is a sterling pro combi s 2.5kw
  6. now we're getting somewhere. i'm willing to spend more if need be for the correct system. Also intend to buy a honda eu20 as a back up Don't really do electrics other than basic stuff, got a father in law for that, so need as much advice as possible
  7. so returning to my question. I've edited original post with more info about power requirements etc.
  8. I'm hoping to fit some solar panels to keep the batteries topped up whilst out on the cut this summer. I would like to know what more knowledgeable people than me thought about these. http://www.marine-solar-panels.co.uk/solar-tech-rigid-panels/80w-solar-panel-complete-kit battery bank is 4x110 domestic plus starter battery 2500 watt invertor/charger we will be moored up most of the week as we both work, then moving on at the weekend Usual power needs, phones, laptop, light,.fridge. we don't have a tv or washing machine
  9. We cruised past this boat yesterday then walked back to have a nosey. I can say that it is a lovely paint job and the price seems very reasonable price. we are planning to paint our boat ourselves this year but might just go there for a quote
  10. British blue. Great pets with great character and temperament. Ours never made it to the boat as we had to have him put to sleep before we moved aboard. We really miss him
  11. I saw you yesterday. I was just heading out for a run over the bridge as you where passing under.
  12. We've been lliving on our boat for about 3 months. We still have a house but rarely go there. I can honestly say that I miss a big fat zero.
  13. This looks interesting. http://www.truma.com/int/en/water-comfort/boat-boiler-b-10-b-14.php
  14. Don't need or want rads and having a back boiker would mean lighting the stove in summer. Plus there's the extra cost and upheaval of retro fitting rads and associated pipe work. What I need is a scourge of hot water without running engine late at night or early morning
  15. I guessed a non return valve could be used but wasn't sure, plumbing's not my forte. Can the Morco be fitted in the engine bay as would an Alde? Morco would be the cheaper option
  16. I'm having difficulty deciding on on the best route to go down with respect to water heating. Currently we have a calorifier heated via the engine which works fine and provides plenty hot water, but we are restricted to when we can run the engine. I intend to fit an immersion heater but would like other options as well. Is it possible to fit a morco boiler or similar and retain the calorifier or would something like an Alde be more suitable. We don't have central heating, stove is enough, but an Alde would give the option of fitting rads in the future. After reading lots of threads on here and magazine articles i've come to the conclusion that a diesel boiler is a no no for water heating only. Thoughts, comments and ideas please
  17. I go to a local coal merchant and buy several bags. Supatherm £7.20 a go.
  18. is there a difference in noise levels between LPG and petrol?
  19. and i should add that at first i thought we would need a full CH system for winter but we've managed fine with a stove and oil filled rad.
  20. warm and toasty on ours :-)) 3 months into a trial period living aboard before well sell the house and so far so good :-))
  21. yeah we got well and truly pinned against the bank at germans lock in a strong cross wind.
