  1. Push start ? 🤡
  2. and the rest frittered away Who said that? (or similar words)
  3. all good fun, I’m sure after using the water point today the wind will try to pin me to the pub on the otherside. I’ll try my best but might have to give in to it 🤷‍♀️
  4. I think Gas Street might be the windiest of all places to moor in Brum 🤷‍♀️ Round towards Sherborne wharf by what’s his face’s gym might be the most sheltered, By the arena, Lego Giraffe side, I believe is the best for sunshine all day if you’ve some solar,
  5. How do you mask a curve? with my DIY jobs I get by with paint brush following a pencil/chalk line, curves on the counter bands where the blacking meets the colour I do with a twist of the brush, but professionally, and perhaps with spray painting, I imagine the approach different, so how do you mask off on a curve, I thought the tape would buckle and crinkle?
  6. Ah, now fisherists do pay their way, the honest ones will be, get the cyclists to pay is what I say, maybe a surcharge on a boater who cycles too?
  7. They seem to fill quick enough on just one too, even if it’s a tad slower I’ll only work one-side of a broad to save my energy, them paddles take a lot of work winding up, makes sense to halve the work when faced with 21 wide locks,
  8. Use tape as little as possible if you can get away with it but when you do paint away from the tape edge never into it. I tend to press firmly on the edge of the tape Im painting inside, run your finger quite firmly down that inside edge, just a bit of gentle pressure on the rest, if that makes sense. It’s only the edge of the tape that needs to stick the rest can be lightly in place. But yeah, it’s tricky. what you painting ? got a photo?
  9. Can’t say I’m really that bothered anymore, the arguments for and against the surcharge are quite interesting, although all are pretty much self motivated. I haven’t yet heard a good solid reason for the surcharge just plenty of excuses, bottom line for me: CRT need the money and have seen ‘an opening’ and gone for it, business wise it makes sense.
  10. Today, Cape of Good Hope. decisions decisions, move on with forecast gales this weekend or go for a pint instead? …I’ll see what time they open.
  11. I think, if my figures and estimate is correct the surcharge when it reaches 25% will most likely out way what most home moorers believe they pay to CRT through their mooring contracts. Not that I’m persuaded the home moorer’s extra payments to CRT are a good foundation for arguing the surcharge. as we know a home mooring is a choice to pay for an additional service. but…round and round we’ll go on that one,
  12. I’m sure the CRT are saying you must have a mooring for at least 6 months before you can call yourself a home moorer. How it all stands up in court???🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️ CRT often back down over stuff, I don’t reckon this is one of them. They’ve used the figures from the consultation to back their scheme/plan and claim they have full support from the majority of boaters.
  13. Yes short boats like mine like to do their own thing sometimes, I don’t think anyone’s dare say it have they? use one gate? I found by chance today that if you leave a top paddle open on the Hatton flight the boat will also lower and stay on that side when you open a bottom paddle on opposite side, Not suggesting this is good practise but just an observation.
  14. There was mention further up the thread about whether it was or not, just sharing my experience that it’s only ever cropped up with the surveyor, the surveyor always says not ideal and notes them down as something that needs ‘maintaining well’ (or some such wording)
  15. just shows there’s no such thing as a daft question, it’s was a good conversation starter leading to an interesting thread 👍
  16. The outlets sound just like mine and surveyors have always picked up on them but it never comes up with BSS, it is a small worry to me and most days I give them casual look over, looking for bangs and scrapes, if you can inspect on the inside it might put your mind at rest, I’ve outlets with 3 brass fittings and all look as good as new inside with pipes firmly attached, I assume because the surveyor has always picked up on them and written about them in the report that if I were to ever sink because one had failed/broken the insurers probably wouldn’t pay out any money saying it’s my negligence, if the boat gets a good lean my outlets go under the water, but then I think I’ve only about 8” of freeboard 🤷‍♀️ It’s not impossible to have them replaced higher up, depends how much room you have, if your galley waste is easily accessible on the inside (like mine) I wouldn’t think it too troublesome to have it removed and replace further up? I like that idea too, and that outlet is about the height of my gunnel.
  17. With buying my oil at the Farm Supplies in Penkridge for £16 I save £10-£16 than if buying the same 5L oil from a yard/marina, The most I’ve spent on a filter was £19 at a marina, cheapest has been £6 from Turner’s on the Shroppie, Like others I don’t begrudge the marinas making money and I’m not looking for cheap inferior products, but if I can do an oil change for £22 instead of the best part of £50 then I’m inclined to do more regular oil and filter changes, admittedly the filters I’ve just bought are the shorter type, My pump goes to drain plug, Sounds daft but I do wonder how much a list or the bow being high will keep the oil to one-side or at back off sump away from the hole, could it be enough to stop the last pint or so from draining?
  18. yes, Ive also used FT4826 and RL 3033, moving around I tend to have to buy what I can get a hold of, the RL 3033’s were from Calcutt, Im trying NAPA NF03008 at moment which are Ukrainian 🇺🇦 I suggested a local garage because they might supply the same item at a fraction of the cost a marina will charge, and have it delivered in on same day if you’re early enough.
  19. That’s about what I get out using the pump, and yes, it always surprises me how little it is, I’m not wise, and I buy any filter compatible that I can find, there’s lots and lots to choose from, I’d simply ring the local garage and ask for an oil filter for a BMC 1800,
  20. …LadyG had swiftly cut him loose with her box knife?
  21. but you’re not a newbie, unless you’re saying you’re a rescue service for any newbie that has a hang up 🤷‍♀️
  22. There’s gotta be a load of property and wharfs down in London CRT could flog off or lease out to the developers to keep the North afloat? Never happen though will it. Levelling up my arse!
  23. and what do you get for your money Arthur? a canal with not a lot of water and a flight of locks at either end that are rarely open in unison, I think you’re owed some sort of a refund. and let’s not forget the services at Marple that have been out of action, …and the lift bridge The Macc’s saving grace is its beauty… That’s all meant with a smile before it’s taken too seriously
