  1. But CRT don’t need planning permission for further visitor moorings or leisure moorings?
  2. re-inventing 👍 perhaps I should have said that earlier up the thread
  3. Yes, but why wouldn’t/shouldn’t they grant a license to a boater who fulfils the legislated minima?
  4. so we’re left with issue licences, take the money and deal with the consequences, fine by me
  5. inventing/tweaking/adopting/changing/adapting/ improving which ever way we look at it, I’m not against any if it’s for a betterment of things. anyway, for me to get a traders license there are a few hoops for me to jump through, not many, nothing serious, all doable. And every now and again another hoop is added. Things are a little stricter (perhaps just a tad) than they were when I first applied for a trading license 8 years ago. Not much, it’s all still very simple, very very simple, but it perhaps shows (to me) an effort by CRT to take a stock of what’s going on. Why can’t CRT add a few hoops for those (like me) without a home mooring? Simple stuff such asking “ where do you intend to cruise?” then when someone says the Peak Forest Canal between Whaley Bridge and New Mills they can be told in advance how that ain’t gonna work. Now I’m not getting into whether CRT can refuse selling a license but they could advise better. Perhaps agree or encourage a more personal pattern of movement before/whilst issuing a license? or should CRT issue licenses regardless and take the money? it is much needed money in the bank after all?
  6. but CRT are inventing new requirements: mooring restrictions from 14 days to 2 days or whatever, wherever? surcharges for those without a home mooring?
  7. True, I threw it in as a devil’s argument, kind of, perhaps having to obtain some sort of helm certificate would put off plenty of fly by night boat owners, so how can one demonstrate they will use the boat bona fide?
  8. Ok, let’s put it another way, why shouldn't ALL boat owners have some sort of helms certificate?
  9. ok, fair enough, it was only a suggestion, and you’ve pissed on it, and of course it’s unreasonable apologises for trying to take the same old same old conversation out of its loop, if your happy in the loop, stay in it, why are you hiding behind rules when CRT are readily changing them?
  10. Would it be simple enough to begin with requiring some sort of helm certificate as a starter? (something I’ve been against but times they are a changing)
  11. yes, mine too, but with CRT making current changes, as in the new surcharges, perhaps CRT could increase their creativity and come up with some idea how to keep a check on things rather than just take the money. 🤷‍♀️
  12. 👍agreed, which leads me to ask perhaps CRT should/could be more discerning who they give a licence to? are CRT just taking easy money with a license fee without making some assurance the boater is able (or willing) to comply with the 14 day rule?
  13. No not cheap, but a nice treat though, I like the bread in the farm shop too,
  14. It’s ok ain’t it. Im happy with a pint of Bass, so Im fine with it on a sunny day, sitting by the canal, and there’s a good butcher down the road
  15. don’t get me wrong, I don’t dislike posh, I can do posh 👍
  16. Yes I like them too, for me they’re what fall in to the posh and fancy butcher shop category, where they have lots of different flavoured stuff and maybe their own trays of different recipes of marinated meats, the butcher’s counter at Great Haywood Farm Shop is another example and I like that too, but too much choice confuses me and my favourite of favourites has to be the counter at the back of Todmorden’s in door market, on the right, nothing fancy but high quality, most of their stuff is kept in their walk in fridge and bought out to cut to size in front of you, and for Black Pudding the butcher in Whaley Bridge up the hill opposite the CoOp I’ll make a point of looking for the butcher’s in Atherstone next time I pass, Penkridge has a fine butcher too, good for pies and samosas 🤤
  17. It’s possible you meant to provide this link https://www.theguardian.com/environment/2024/apr/26/a-broad-view-of-canal-boat-licence-fees your’s links back to another article you posted before eta: oh no my mistake sorry, you posted the whole of the article,
  18. price of diesel might be a shocker? It was the most expensive I bought last year. anyway, good luck there 👍 they seemed very nice people.
  19. Will it have made a difference having been tested whilst moored? With a proper flow with the boat moving it might not be much of an issue? It’s kind of what happens with my boat anyway. 🤷‍♀️
  20. As it happened when I passed back through this lock they had divers fixing a ground paddle, While waiting I had a chat to the other workers and I asked about the stop planks, they said it’s a nightmare pushing the planks down with rods, (The lock here at Ware is the responsibility of the Environmental Agency and Little to do with CRT)
  21. I’ve drank out of pint glasses with more scratches than that 👍
