  1. One of the boats, presumably Bedford, was registered at Bath... https://www.iwm.org.uk/collections/item/object/205287126
  2. I agree with what John says. We've been at Calcutt for 26 years and have never had to pay for rubbish or Elsan disposal. When we have needed some small welding jobs done, they have always been done within a day or two if we were staying on the boat.
  3. There's a video on FB... https://www.facebook.com/100001423796364/videos/2956937844363646/UzpfSTEyODQ4OTI3NjY6Vks6MjU3ODc2MjMwNTczNTM3NQ/
  4. Looking northwards from the southern end of the tunnel.
  5. The lock is definitely Pershore Lock. The third and fourth pictures were taken in Victoria Gardens, which is by Abbey Mill.

  7. Royalty class Duke on the Severn, c. 1990
  8. Passing the Coal House Inn at Apperley, while on the way from Gloucester to Tewkesbury, c. 1990.
  9. The chamber behind the water point was a dry dock. I used it just before it went out of use. The duck pond was fed from the outlet from the dock! This photo shows a boat in the dry dock and another moored in the old narrow lock.
  10. The cabin in post 58 was built by Len Beauchamp at Braunston in 1985. It's apparently based on the cabin of Raymond with Arthur Bray checking on progress daily, as it was being fitted out.
  11. Ron Hough did the scumbling/graining in our boat. There are four different finishes, combed oak graining, oak brushed graining, mahogany brushed graining and oak swirls. (The castle and roses weren't painted by Ron.)

The 'Waterways Code for Boaters', published by BWB and reprinted in 1992, has the following "safety advice"...
  13. It's still at Calcutt, minus the handrails, the top and the 'shed'!

  16. I don't think it was meant as a reservoir as each lock had a side pond, like those at The Bratch. The side pond for this lock, (Lock 11 not 5,) was also larger than the other side ponds.
  17. Nobody seems to know for sure, but there's a plausible explanation on the following web page... https://www.waterwayroutes.co.uk/wr/blog-14011701.html
  18. It would appear so... Taken from the IWA Bulletin dated 29th April 2016https://www.waterways.org.uk/news_campaigns/bulletins/iwa_bulletin_20160429 "Luddington lock is now the site of the old footbridge over Bancroft Basin Lock which was built by prisoners in 1963 at their workshops in Wormwood Scrubs, London, placed in position by the Royal Engineers, Long Marston in 1964 and installed by prisoners from Winson Green in Birmingham. Volunteers took the opportunity to bring this iconic structure back to its former glory." The bridge is on the site of the original round Upper Luddington lock.
  19. The caravans are still at Bredon Marina, the other side of Bredon Dock. There have only been moorings at the Old Rectory. The Old Rectory is about 30' higher than the river. If that ever floods, then most of Tewkesbury would be under 30' of water!
  20. It's the posts that are new, not the moorings.
  21. These were spotted for sale in 1983, the largest is 3 a gallon can....
  22. Is there anything on the back of the postcard?
