Yello, We have a number of friends living aboard on Ash Island ... fortunately the elderly lady Joyce was not aboard when her boat caught fire. The boat that was breasted up to hers consequently sank from it's proximity to the fire. Smoke alarms DO save lives as our BSSO man says .... many people on the Island escaped and learned a lesson. Many boats on Ash Island are three abreast .... and bow to stern. Another reason why I prefer to moor single side on to the bank. Stay safe ..... Malc.

Yello, My Becton 7 stove is 4/5 years old and gets used in the winter only .... but yesterday I saw smoke coming up through the door top and into the cabin ! On inspection the rope seal looks grubby but perfectly intact and not damaged in any way that I can see. The door close on the stove also looks perfect .... I will re-sweep the flue in case there's any excess deposits, but apart from that is there any maintenance I could do to the rope seal to cure the leak please ? Cheers Malc. I have now given the rope a little 'massage' to fluff it back up a bit. It did seem a tad flat in some places.
