  1. I'm trying to catch up with this thread and was just thinking it might be a good idea if CRT could address the issue of 'affordability and availability' of towpath moorings at the same time. It has been said in another thread that a percentage of CCrs want one, many feel they are too expensive, often lack access to services, there are not enough in many areas and CRT do take a long time to advertise vacancies when they do arise. It might be alot to take on alongside new solutions for winter moorings, but dealing with both problems at once may be beneficial in the longer term.
  2. It would be nice if CRT advised licence payers well in advance of changes such as this
  3. I would still like to help. Although my circumstances are changing due to work commitments I still hope to CC. I have a little less time and some evening meetings might be difficult but I have some ideas on positive ways forward and ways CRT can reach boaters with information and consultation. I am working all day tomorrow but will give you a call in the next couple of days if that is ok?
  4. This post cannot be displayed because it is in a forum which requires at least 10 posts to view.
  5. So good to hear the meeting was positive and CRT are prepared to listen and work with boaters to resolve problems - it really did appear the new proposals had been rubber stamped by the Trust's board, especially in the IWA article I read. Well done everyone, sorry I couldn't be with you and looking forward to the feedback
  6. Thanks for this, must have missed it somehow Thanks Chris
  7. I was told if too much of the flue goes up into the chimney outside, and the chimney gets knocked by a bridge, it could cause damage to the joint/cement/stove You probably know this, but to some of (me included) everything has to be explained lol
  8. Thanks Rob. I wonder how easy it is to drill through the cast iron legs too?
  9. Thanks for the speedy replies, off to buy some angle brackets then. Its a shame a fixing kit isn't sold with the stove or the legs designed with a hole for bolts - especially as its so important and they cost so much money to buy!
  10. Hi all Have been reading threads here about fitting a stove/flue/etc but can't find an answer to this question Now that the stove is on the boat, we've fitted the legs (short) and stood it on the hearth (which is covered with nice ceramic tiles) I understand its recommended that the stove is fixed down to the hearth, but can't see how this can be done. Any suggestions welcome please? Ali
  11. Have now, from the K & A website on the BW transfer? ... and this bit... In response to a recommendation from the Lords Secondary Legislation Scrutiny Committee, Mr Benyon said “I am also happy, on behalf of the CRT, to assure the House that the CRT will take into consideration the specific needs of all stakeholders, including itinerant boat dwellers, in the development of all future byelaws. I should also assure the Committee that it is Ministers who will approve CRT proposals for byelaws”
  12. I still think one of the important points to make is that boaters interests are not properly represented in the CRT decision making structure!
  13. That is scary! We are getting everything together now to have our stove fitted asap and have been given some lovely ceramic tiles. Can somebody explain what board should be used to tile onto. Need to keep costs down but want it to be safe. And (in simple terms) how to create the air gap - and is an air gap needed underneath and behind the stove?
  14. Its definitely a flat collar. Will have the flue pipe at the weekend and will see how it looks, then investigate a wedge or filling if needed. Thanks again.
  15. Thank you, that is a relief hopefully and I will check. I do see boats with slanted chimneys though every now and then, which I don't mind as long as it isn't too much - priority is to try and get straight flue pipe in.
  16. Does anyone know if there is something I can buy so that our roof collar sits horizonally instead of to one side with the slope of the roof? If this is possible we can use a straight flue pipe inside the boat which I believe is better (and also cheaper). The chimney would be straight also. Any pointers would be gratefully received.
  17. Well done! Brings back memories of my first night sleeping on a rug in a sleeping bag in the corner of a sailaway with newspaper on the windows. Yes the dog thought i'd gone mad and he was probably right, but I never left after that day and it very soon became more homely. Have fun.
  18. I think I read that cc'rs make up a very small percentage of boaters, that C&RT believe only half of cc'rs overstay at times and they are targeting/working with a very small number of boaters (500/600?) to resolve problems in hot spot areas. The changes to mooring rules will affect all boaters (except those who stay permanently in marinas) and you don't have to be a cc'er to overstay. I don't think it is helpful or fair to make sweeping generalisations about cc'rs as a group - even if you do have examples its just not nice to go around thinking and saying everyone is guilty until they get the chance to prove their innocence. Sticking rigidly to shorter mooring times in areas where there is no or little demand just doesn't make sense either. This is just my view, no offence meant.
  19. Apologies, should have said (again) that we are on the one plan. Previously the add-on and 3mi-fi didn't give us enough data but the one plan works well.
