    Lancaster is beautiful but I find it boring after a day or so due to no locks (except the Glasson Branch) or swingbridges.

    The times for the 5 rise are roughly 9 to 5 ish there's nothing to book after the winter just get out of Leeds and turn up at the bottom of the 3 rise (before the 5 rise) and see the lock keeper, if you're too late it's no problem mooring in Bingley for the night.     It doesn't always work like that, our landowner (who also as a boat) does the same, we pay him so much a year for the mooring and we also pay CaRT moorings fees, plus the licence fees

    You get what you pay for, we had a Springer in the family for many years and it was a great little boat and didn't cost us much, we now own a Jonathan Wilson boat, a beautiful boat but it cost a lot more. It all depends on your budget.

    We've used Canvas man in Otley (West Yorks) and he was excellent, I suppose it depends which part of Lancashire you're in. www.canvasman.co.uk

    We're on the Leeds & Liverpool near Skipton, I went to check my boat the other day and on looking in the water at the stern I could see the bottom of the canal (it's not often it's like that)
