The reason I'm toying with the idea is that the boat is very rusty, especially above W/L, it's currently moored in a free mooring spot that I don't want to lose, doing the work locally (a couple of hundred yards) would minimise the risk of losing the spot. Grit blasting to save time and will allow me to epoxy the hull......

Hypothetically, could one drag a 42ft narrowboat up a concrete slipway on wooden rollers with a 1954 Austin K9 4x4 truck fitted with a meaty winch, shot blast, black it then shove it back in again with a big tyre on the front of said truck or am I being a FOOL to even think about such an ill conceived plan?

We fitted one (tenner) from b&q, works great, think they're made by a company called 'bloomer' or something. Even with 3 cats coming and going all night a set of Duracells last about four months. C.

We liveaboard full time, went for a LEC A++ at around £150, spent the money we saved on buying a 24v fridge on solar panels @ £90 (90w x6). No problems at all after 2.5 years. We do however have 550 amps of Trojan batts and a 24v dc genny that will produce upto 50 amps per hr, which I run about an hour a day in winter and a Victron multi thingy...... C.

My knowledge is for yachts only but if you have the original bill of sale proving vat paid in your home or another EU country or if the boat was built before 1991and has been in EU waters most of the time since then, then no further vat is payable. We don't have the original bill of sale, just a reciept and sales contract from when we bought our yacht from a German boatyard plus letters from two German harbour masters stating that she's always lived there since being built in '86. 8 years ago andhhad no issues sailing from UK to Greece over 3 years. If you're buying a replacement yhink about changing to a Johnson, much better imo...

I recently bought a cheap (£20 ish) 1500w inverter from ebay for my camper and it lasted a day just running a tabletop fridge, the build quality was very poor and weighed nothing. Having booked a ferry ticket to France for the following day I had to get a replacement PDQ so got one from Toolstation which is still working fine. Having said that I also bought a cheap (£150) 1500w pure sinewave jobby from ebay 6 years ago for my yacht and it's never let me down. I guess just don't go too cheap!

Erm, so that I can find out who's responsible for some of the many breakins we've been getting round our way..... I'm looking into fixed ip sim cards.

We've got three of the little buggers, trouble is you never know which one it was that sh*t under the bed........

Hi folks, After a recent spate of breakins round here I'm looking at fitting one of the above. Not sure if I can use a wifi hotspot (via cellphone ) to connect it to the web or will I need a mifi router. Has anyone fitted these things? Any tips? Cheers, C.

Our tank is around 500l and lasts about 4 days (3 on board). We run the washing machine at least once every other day. It's the machine that uses the most water even on a 15min wash cycle. Your 3.5 days seems about right. C.

Wierd thing is that batts 1 + 2 in string 1 have gone 'frilly' but batts 2 + 3 on sting 2 The others look ok. C.

These batts are new, only been charged via DC genny for ten minutes, plates were ok after that. Batteries have only been charged by the Victron since. C.

Plates were not warped when I installed them, it's happened in the last 2 days. Was not expecing more voltage from the Victron but explaining that it was not providing too much. C.

Hi folks, I just took a look inside a few of my new T105s, and am shocked to see that the plates have warped on some of them. After the 10mins of running my DC genny (see earlier thread) at 30.2v I switched to my 240v Hyundai through the Victron multi and not seen voltages above 29.4v. What on earth has stressed the plates out on the new batteries? Are they screwed? C.

Search '12v circulation pump' on ebay, the cream coloured one around £15, been running ours for a couple of years now. You'll need a pwm motor controller to slow it down, again about a fiver from ebay. C.

Thanks for the replies. The genny does 45-50 amps @ 24v (90-100 amps @ 12 therefore). I'll have another look today.

18Amps (@24v) at the time. My genny does 45-50amps when batts are low......
