  1. And I thought Paul Lillie was in the running.... Cheers Gareth
  2. If wide beams were banned cos they is so ugly then of course there wouldn't be a problem in the first place........ Cheers Gareth

  4. Can I also say top work to Dan and the Mods for letting this thread stand. I feel that there may be a much wider fallout than just Pillings (insert new name here) for the wider boating community so it's good to have discussion from all sides. Oh and would boarding the boat without the owners permission amount to trespass unless a bailiff or similar was involved or does a "tort" hold more weight? All businesses including mine have slow payers at some point.....I must remember Mr Lillies excellent tips for improving customer relations next time I'm owed money. Cheers. Gareth

    JS3M cold start

The overload pawl makes life easier when hand starting but if everything else is in good order then shouldn't make much difference on electric start. Cheers Gareth

    JS3M cold start

Well I was almost right!!! Cheers for clearing that up Martyn. I would also check what oil it's running on...mine is much easier to hand start on SAE 20 rather than SAE 30. Cheers Gareth
  7. Have you checked you don't have a fresh water tank full of newts? Cheers Gareth

    JS3M cold start

Indeed....mind you if it does then it might be tricky to find where to top the system up..... Cheers Gareth

    JS3M cold start

Not necessarily! The JS was one of the last variants of the JP range...I think it has pressure fed top end lubrication and no compression changeover valves....it's also rated for a higher rpm...possibly 1500 rpm instead of 1200 rpm As for starting do you have hand or electric start?.....I take it that it doesn't start that easily from cold? Changing the antifreeze is just a matter of draining and or pumping the old stuff out and replacing with a fresh mix....use the blue stuff though not the 5 year pink stuff. Cheers Gareth

    lister jp3 oil

Taking the large door off does mean you can remove the gauze filter tho…..its not unheard of for them to have splits in the gauze allowing rubbish through to the pump etc. Its also amazing quite how much sludge can build up underneath them. I have to admit I never remove my sump plugs working on the basis its easier to clean the sump out from above…I agree with cleaning the recesses in the plugs themselves out….again stuff builds up in them. If you have a Blackstone box fitted its also worth checking the bottom oil way back from the bottom of the box is clean as well. Cheers Gareth

    Fair point! Cheers Gareth
  13. I used to have a square D switch which could be adjusted but didn't replumb it in when I overhauled the system.....I have found the microswitch on the pump to be ok apart from one time when it decided not to cut out...I just took the switch off and cleaned the little hole out behind it and all was well again. I did also have a failure with a previous parmax where the permanent magnet on the motor became unattached from the motor casing.....it did run like that for quite a while (over 6 months!!) until I decided to see why it wasn't making it's usual noise! Given that we live aboard and work the pump fairly hard I would fit another when this one goes......in fact I tend to retire them at about 5-6 years old and keep the old one as a spare....it reduces the chance of pump failure when you least need it! Cheers Gareth
  14. That might put a dent in our plans!! Is this just a rumour or is there some substance behind it? Cheers Gareth
  15. I have a parmax 4....not cheap but I like a good shower!....it also means someone can fill the kettle without the shower slowing to a trickle. Cheers Gareth
  16. I don't think a LPWS was around in 1941....I think they were introduced in the late 1980's/ early 1990's.... What have you based that year on? Cheers Gareth
  17. They have either had a change of heart or they just didn't like me!! Lol! Have a great trip....mind the dog leg in braunston tunnel and make sure the headlamp works before you get to crick tunnel! Cheers Gareth
  18. You can keep them there!....the clouds are getting darker here in leicestershire now though..... Cheers Gareth
  19. Indeed......I'm trying to get jobs done before we set off for summers boating.....these showers are getting annoying! Cheers Gareth
  20. I must confess I didnt.....as ever life got in the way of my good intentions......rather wish I had done though....it was the fact they were saying it was how they had to sell it despite me saying it wasn't that really got me peed off.....they also weren't happy when I made them give me a VAT receipt.....I hope someone does take it further with a supplier who insists on 60/40.....I now double check before any fuel flows into my tank.....and won't do business with anyone who says it has to be 60/40.... Cheers Gareth
  21. That might be seen as "Customer Service".....they seem to treat non moorers as a great inconvenience to their day....I wasn't impressed...can you tell?? Cheers Gareth I would dip the tanks before you set off....boats unlike cars when you buy them don't always have an empty tank!....I would also be tempted to put a dose of Marine 16 or FuelSet etc in just to be safe when you do refuel. Cheers Gareth
  22. I think you may find they have different rules for moorers and non moorers....or they have seen sense after I said I would tell trading standards! It was just about a year ago I was there.....I won't be rushing back. Cheers Gareth
  23. If you have enough fuel in the boat I would suggest getting fuel from T F Yates just the other side of Newbold tunnel....they did a good price last year at whatever split and I think took cards. Tel 01788 569140. Cheers Gareth
  24. The last time I brought fuel there they only allowed a 60/40 split despite me explaining that it was my choice! As it was needed for a boat I was working on I didn't have a lot of choice. I strongly advise you to check before you fill up. They also add a percentage for credit card sales. I wasn't a happy bunny when I left and told them so in no uncertain terms!! Oh and they weren't exactly cheap either Cheers Gareth
  25. I would use the Distro 500 for the heavy duty stuff including supplying the Empirbus and the Empirbus for the lightweight stuff…..they really don't do the same job at all unless your Empirbus doesn't mind a few hundred amps going through a node…….But hey ho its your boat! Cheers Gareth
