  1. So, are they very prone to breaking cranks? I’d hate to go to all the trouble of fitting it, only to have to scrap it later because it’s broke the crank and I can’t find one???
  2. Thanks chaps, I feel a lot more optimistic now, I must say, it’s a lovely looking engine and it would be a real shame not to use it. Thanks again for the replies..

    Lister CE

Good morning all, it’s been a while since I’ve made any posts and I hope everyone is well. my question is, has anybody got any experience or knowledge of the Lister CE in any narrowboats? ive been offered one, I believe it’s a genuine marine version(haven’t picked it up yet but I will post some pics when I do), it’s rated at 16hp but I can’t find any torque figures for it. power wise I’m sure it’ll be fine(looking to put it in a 60’ boat) but looking at the specs, it’s an over square engine and from experience, I’ve found them to be lacking torque. I’ve heared rumour of a 70’ boat that has one fitted and it frequently pulled a butty. any information will be gratefully received.
  4. Hi all, a long shot I know but I have a petter pj2w with a cracked cylinder, if anyone has one for sale I'd be very interested?! thanks in advance.
  5. Hi all, has anybody had any experience with these water heaters. I need to replace my Paloma and these seem fantastic value for money. I intended buying a morco but have come across these and would like to know if anyone has used one? Thanks in advance
  6. Last boat I bought, viewed it saturday morning, I'm an engineer, she was out of the water, so trusted my own opinion on condition and didn't have a survey (although I wouldn't recommend this course of action to anyone!), paid cash and collected her 6 days later. But please.........if you are not sure, pay for a survey!!!
  7. Is the fridge holding temperature or getting too cold? If the thermostat has gone faulty I would expect the fridge to be getting too cold and freezing things. The other possible problems could be shortage of gas which would mean the fridge isn't getting cold enough to turn off via the 'stat or compressor could be on its way out and no longer able to achieve the pressures/vacuum neccessary. Hope that helps/makes sense. If it's the thermostat it can quite a simple repair however if its gas or compressor you are going to need an engineer. As for start up current draw, does seem a little high but would not concern me.
  8. Yes Tim, you're right. Mine has a heat exchanger too, and, just for information, almost unbelievable fuel economy!! I really am impressed with this engine so far.
  9. Thank you for your replies, all very interesting and yes it is "King Arthur".

    BUKH 2G105

Hi all, collected my, new to me, latest nb project today. 60' trad, built by coles morton, 1981. I have to say handles superbly!! She is fitted with a Bukh 2G105. I'm really pleased with this engine so far, cruised her for 12 hours yesterday and it just ran lovely. I'm an agricultural engineer by trade but know little or nothing about these engines. The internet turns up nothing?? From an engineering point of view, it seems very simple and very well engineered, does anybody know anything about these? How to date them? Reliability? Anything at all will be appreciated. Thanks in advance.
  11. Hi all, not sure if this is the best section to put this in but, admin, please feel free to move it! I'm after buying the dewalt saw koukouvagia is selling in the "for sale" section but I live in Cheshire and he is in London!! Is anyone traveling north in the near future that could bring this up for me? I would, of course, happily make a fuel contribution? Many thanks in advance for any offers of help.
  12. Thanks for all the replies. We're going to view Thursday so will report back after that. we'll take a walk down, Cheshire rose, and see if we can have a chat with the people you mention. Again thanks all.
  13. Hi all, has anybody had any experience of these builders? A friend of ours is thinking of using them for her new boat and they seem very reasonable and quite helpful and enthusiastic. I've googled them and can't find any reviews, info or comments at all. ....good or bad!!! Any comments, opinions or general information gratefully received, via PM please in the interest of fairness to all concerned. Thanks.
  14. You need to be careful of wall thickness of metric pipe, most metric pipe has a wall thickness that is too small for the bss regs' hence the reason for most boats having the gas plumbed in imperial copper. I wouldn't like to comment on whether 15mm is ok with regards your appliances, I fitted a full size 4 burner hob and a smallish oven (can't remember the size off hand) but I used 3/8" copper with no joins and it's fine and passed the bss.
  15. Unfortunately I don't know what size the current prop is as it doesn't state in any of the paperwork. I haven't felt like it was slow before but as I said I've only really pottered about on the shroppie around barbridge and a run up to chester but always thought it ran ok. I've only noticed it this week on the Llangollen so maybe it is the depth as some of you have suggested. I'm going to winsford on the Weaver next week end so ill compare it with that and report back! Thanks for all the suggestions and advice.
  16. Hi all. I bought my boat 18 months ago (new), collingwood 65' with a 42hp canaline engine, only pottered about local. Did my first serious run this week, Nantwich to Llangollen, everyone told me 3 days but it took me 4 LONG days! !! Everything seemed faster than me? I normally cruise at around 1500 rpm....so downloaded a speedometer app'on my phone and I'm only averageing 2-3mph???? To get to the magic 4mph I need to wind the revs up to around 2500 plus!!! But at that speed you can't hear yourself think, the wake is unreal, as is the vibration. Is it possible that the prop is more suited to a 57' boat with a smaller engine? Unfortunately I don't know what prop size and pitch is fitted now. Thanks in advance.
  17. No, they don't always declare what split they will "allow". Last year I filled up at a hire base after nearly running out a couple of hours earlier, and had to buy 40l from a local petrol station at FULL duty(white) I then filled up at this hire base, no signs, no mention of any split whilst filling. I then went into the office to pay, was asked what split, I stated 90/10 as I'd just bought white at full duty, no amount of argument, reason or discussion would sway the little jobs worth from his 60/40 split......so I simply instructed him to remove his fuel from my tank!! Or take my payment at 90/10 or I was leaving and he was quite at liberty to call the police. He took my payment.
  18. I think you're going to view nb Sloe gin? Having looked at her myself, I can say that in my opinion she is a beautiful and well built/fitted boat. Don't think I could live with the bed myself, OK for a holiday/summer but as a liveaboard it wouldn't be for me. But she really is a beautiful boat. Good luck with your viewing. No connection with the boat by the way, just happened to view it with a friend a couple of weeks ago.
  19. To give a rough idea, I used to be corgi registered so did all the gas work on my boat myself. 65' with galley amidships. Gas hob and desperate oven, the cost in pipe and components necessary to comply to BSC regs, regulator through to both appliances...........£350!!!!!!! Don't underestimate those pesky BSC regs' do it right first time or IT WILL cost you more to put it right later!!! Hopes that helps.
  20. Hi all, I've just seen an advert on sat TV for a shrinking/expanding hose pipe called the Xhose, it looks superb for us boaters!! However??? How often have we bought these wonder products only to be disappointed? So, my question is...... has anyone tried one?
  21. My take on this situation would be to explain the situation to the buyer and hope they understand the situation, personally, I think we should all boycott the bl**dy stupid EU RCD rules and sell OUR boats when, how and to whom we like!!! Another option though, put it on hard standing and sell it as a mobile home, NO RCD/CE mark required!!! What the new owner does with it then, I.e. puts it in water and uses it as a boat is up to them. Just my opinion of course.
  22. Last summer I came very close to running out of fuel but carry a couple of Jerry cans just in case(empty), I walked to a petrol station close to the canal and bought 40litres at FULL duty, a couple of days later I fuelled at a well known hire base went in to pay and the little scrote that served me tried to insist that I could only claim a 90/10 split, I tried to explain that as I had bought white diesel at full duty I had overpaid the neccesary tax amount anyway he refused to accept this and so to me the answer was very very simple, I asked him in no uncertain terms to remove his diesel from my tank and I would buy elsewhere. I explained that the amount of duty to declare is solely my responsibility, I gave him 5 minutes to either accept my payment at 10/90, remove his diesel or I was leaving and offered him the telephone number of the police!!! He accepted my payment.
  23. I second aqueduct marina at church minshull, excellent facilities, excellent staff, and I find it to be a really central location.
  24. Having spent the last few days moored in Chester, I took a walk down the Dee branch, what has happened down there? The last pair of lock gates are dated 2006 but are no longer attached and the whole area is seml-derelict?..the rest of the locks look as though they MAY still work although the water level was high and running over the top of the gates. Does anyone know the last time anyone locked out onto the Dee? Is the branch still navigable? Why have the gates been removed? All information gratefully received!!! Thanks.
