  1. Oops - Well that typo shows my age. Many thanks. Contacted Rutland who are going to come back with dates.
  2. Hi, Does anyone know of a training centre in the Peterborough area running the Marine Radio course between now and the end of July. I'm looking to get a licence before tackling the Trent in August but having no luck with the RYA website search facility. I can hire a car for a day so anywhere within say an 80 mile radius would do. Edit to add: or London as I can jump on a train
  3. All the info you need here. https://canalrivertrust.org.uk/business-and-trade/boating-business/starting-or-expanding-a-boating-business/self-drive-hire
  4. The other point to note with that lock is that it has no ladders which, as I discovered, makes single handing interesting. Had to climb up the gate to get out and fill it.
  5. Hi, I started the thread in the link above and have received some very useful info from member Blazeaway who used it a year ago. I'm having mine blacked using this at the end of July and will try to take and post some photos.
  6. I assume your familiar with the Boater's Christian Fellowship - link below if not. Perhaps one of their members could help. http://www.boaterschristianfellowship.org.uk/welcome.htm
  7. I did the K&A a couple of years ago and mostly enjoyed it. Reading is disappointing as there are no moorings in the town and the first few miles west of the town are not very pleasant. From there to Devises and the famous flight was enjoyable with pleasant towns and scenery. However, for me the best section is from the bottom of Caen Hill to Bath and especially the Avon valley which was glorious when I travelled in Autumn.
  8. Yes just turn up there is no pre-booking. I've marked the mooring areas with a red line.
  9. I visited in April and found mooring not too difficult. There was space on the Paddington arm between Kensal Green and Little Venice (14 day). Not surprisingly getting busier nearer Little Venice. Also found spaces in Paddington Basin (7 day) and Limehouse (24hr). I couldn't find a space on the Regents canal.
  10. Thanks for the info Blazeaway it sounds very promising. I'm having my boat blacked in July by my usual boatyard and plan to tell them to use this along with fertan to treat any rust.
  11. The following extract from the PRM manual clearly states engine oil.
  12. Thanks for the replies so far. I was interested in the advertising blurb claims it lasts longer than 2 pack epoxy which, if true, would make it very good value.
  13. Hi, I read an article in towpath talk about a new blacking paint called Keelblack. Has anyone any experience of using it?

  16. I suppose it's and extra storage space but I removed mine 3 years ago and prefer life without it. Edited to add: It also provides a handy cover for thieves while they break in to the front doors.
  17. I tend to use a filter bottle for drinking - mainly cos I can cool it in the fridge. Otherwise I just use water from the tank which is stainless steel I tend to use a filter bottle for drinking - mainly cos I can cool it in the fridge. 18. I'm looking to repair the floor if the front well deck as the existing paint is lifting in places and there is surface rust beneath. Am I right in thinking Owatrol oil is good for treating the rust before painting?
  19. Hi, The link below is to the PRM150 manual which includes a parts list. Hope it helps https://www.dropbox.com/s/n0apyoievpiezno/Gearbox.pdf?dl=0
  20. I wouldn't think you'll have a problem. Although the flow has increased I was still making good headway between Windsor and Marlow.
  21. Much of the Thames has gone onto yellow boards today. Certainly a noticeable increase in flow above Windsor.
  22. Is tool box growth a fact of boating and if so is it exponential. When I bought my boat over 4 years ago I made up a small tool box from my garage at home to deal with odd jobs. As I spent more time aboard I transferred more tools and had to buy a larger toolbox. Now, after 2 years as a live aboard I have transferred the entire tool box to the boat. At this rate I'll be looking for a butty by 2020.
  23. I have a similar mystery switch on my Lister panel which seemed to do nothing. Turned out it switches the dashboard lights on/off.
