  5. Any idea what beer? Something from Pardoes, I'm guessing. If it runs out theres this place not too far away http://www.tripadvisor.co.uk/Restaurant_Review-g1898500-d2661887-Reviews-The_Waggon_And_Horses-Halesowen_West_Midlands_England.html I don't think the pub has a website of it's own. I haven't been there myself but it's on my list of places to visit. Cheers

  13. I missed that! The boating wing of UKIP perhaps?
  14. Up the Shroppie to Gnosall for Easter but probably taking a scenic route via Stourbridge and the Staffs & Worcs. BCN Challenge at the back end of May. Then clockwise to Skipton/Silsden for Le Tour (de Yorkshire ) in July and back via those big waterways and the Trent. I have a feeling that the Leeds & Liverpool might be very busy at the end of June/start of July this year. SAM On behalf of team 'Red Wharf'
  15. Was it from that tozzer who wrote in one of the mags about not slowing down when going past 'dirty and poorly maintained boats'? ETA Just read the blurry pic. Yes, it was. Onanist!
  16. This is something that I've been thinking about. Looking at my records I've recorded as low as 1.4 litres hr-1 and as high as 2.1 litres hr-1 which strikes me as quite a wide range. This is for a Beta 43, about 10 years old with 2470 hours, as of last Sunday. ETA With an average of 1.7 litres hr-1.
  17. Thanks for your replies. The battery is at one end of the boat and the socket I'm thinking about is at the other. I'm trying to arrange a 12v supply for a DAB radio. I'm thinking about using a 12v to <whatever> volt supply from Maplins but these are designed for auto use and so come with a car cigarette lighter plug. I'm planning to chop this off and replace it with a 3(?) amp round pin plug to suit the 12v socket already there. Thinking about it the obvious answer to my question is to set up the multimeter and test it on a, say, PP3 battery to check polarity. The reason i asked the question was as there is a 50/50 chance with the polarity you can either get it 100% right or 100% wrong! Changing the subject, any idea how much current a DAB radio might draw? Thanks again for the help.
  18. A quick question. If you have two cables connected to a 12v battery is there a quick and easy way to ascertain which is + ive and which is - ive? (Apart from the obvious, looking how they are connected to said battery and what colour they are that is) Thanks in advance. SAM
  19. Should be dead easy in a 42' boat. Find winding 'ole. Do a LH or RH (as appropriate) turn into said 'ole so boat is at 900 ish across cut. Center tiller and reverse Continue the LH or RH manouver and Robert should be your mother's/father's brother. If not repeat steps until he is. Continue on your way rejoicing! It's one of these things that is much easier to do than describe. Hope this helps. SAM Ryde IOW
  20. But that's a long way to walk if you can't get onto the lock landing

  22. I prefer the work of Luigi del Squigi myself.
  23. I spent a happy two hours last year removing a Chinese lantern from the prop. Got lots of puncture wounds from the wire. I couldn't remember when I last had a tetanus jab so thought it would be a good idea to get one. I told the staff at the Walsall NHS walk in centre that I had had open wounds in canal water and mentioned Weil's Disease. They said they had never heard of it! BTW Tracked down the tetanus stuff in the pharmacy at Tesco. The pharmacist was most amused, said he had never met someone from the Isle of Wight in Walsall before
