  1. Well worth watching Tinothy Spall "Somewhere at Sea" and his Dutch Barge He took six years to circumnavigate GB. The 1st three episodes were along the South Coast and around Lands End. Frightening, very very frightening. He had to wait 3 months to get suitable weather to round the Lizard Episode 1: The Call of the Sea. This first of three programmes sees Timothy and wife Shane set off in their Dutch barge, the Princess Matilda, from Fowey in Cornwall, heading towards Lands End and then into South Wales. By his own admission, Timothy is an unqualified and slightly nervous mariner, but Shane has every confidence in his seafaring abilities. Episode 2: The Bogey Man Timothy. Spall s voyage around Britain continues with the latest leg of his Cornish adventure. Timothy took to the sea with wife Shane, after recovering from a serious illness and this self taught mariner now has to cope with the highly dangerous waters around Lizard Point if he is to make South Wales by winter. Episode 3: Race Against the Tide. The concluding leg of this part of Timothy Spall s epic sea journey around the coast of Britain. He took to the waters of these islands following a serious illness and hasn t looked back (literally!). In this programme, Timothy aided and abetted by wife Shane, navigates their Durch barge around the dangerous waters of Land s End. As he rounds the Lizard (28 minutes)
  2. How does the payment of propulsion duty / domestic duty work with them ? Do they ask for a declaration ? Do you make a declaration ? My understanding is that to supply to boats the supplier had to be registered differently to (say) a supplier of Red / HVO to an agricultural user. My supplier, at home. of Red (for use with tractors and digger) reckons he cannot supply for boat use as he has the 'wronmg licence' from HMRCE as he doesn't need declarations from his customers (except to say it will not be used by road vehicles)
  3. I have done the same - I get a value and if the broker would take (say) 10% I drop the asking price by 10%. I get the same as I would via a broker, the buyer saves 10%. Every boat I have sold has sold within a matter of days, even a viewing on Christmas eve. and they came back and paid in cash on Boxing day.

  8. The residents are musicians, songwriters, TV producers and those working in the creative industries. "Not everyone’s very nautical, despite the fact we all live on houseboats. We’re all hippies at heart - although some bury their inner hippy a bit deeper than others". 9. Corned beef reported as being beyond its BB date.
  10. Are you sure that it a reasonable replacement for a Morso ?
  11. Whenever we went thru Harecastle the Tunnel light was checked by the tunnel-keeper before allowing you to enter. "On" & "Off" and then stand in front of the boat to asses 'angles'.

  13. Found the invoice : October 2019 they charged £145 + VAT to lift out, load onto yard trailer, take across the yard, 'prop up' and remove trailer. They charge by the metre and obviously at 60 foot you are ~18 metres we are just 11 metres.
  14. From memory they charged us £160, a lot different to £2500. Have you considered paying someone experienced in Winter / Tidal rivers to skipper her for you (or at least accompany you) ? You could pay them £500 (or even £1000) for a couple or three days work and still be 'quids in'.
  15. Newark can lift 40 tonnes and we are 14 foot beam and fitted in fine :
  16. I was wrong. looking at it again, it was a 90 tonne rated crane. 90 tonnes at 2.5 metres but only 9.6 tonnes at 20 metres & 1.2 tonnes at 48 metres We set the overload alarm off when he turned around to drop us into the car park.
  17. Op's boat is not much different to your 60x12, do you really think that a 50t will be big enough ? Our boat is 11 tons and set the alarm off on a 100t crane due to the required reach. Lifting capacity reduces tremendously with distance / boom length.
  18. If that beam (2.67m) is correct then the airdraft for the whole route becomes moot. It would be worth driving down and having a look. Is there any reason why the boat cannot be dropped in at its final resting place ?
  19. There is no 'wrong weather' just 'wrong clothes'. Think about those 100s of narrowboat drivers who are always in the 'open' 24/7/365

  21. C&RT publish the dimensions (including air-draft /headroom as they call it) for each canal. They are not always exact and often have a safety factor built in, but it will give you an idea and tou can then ask about any specific height problems and see if anyone has more accurate detail. .Canal & River Max Dimensions.pdf
  22. Had you asked for moorers perceptions and experiences of the marina I could have understood your question. You asked only for the price from 'any' experienced marina moorer.
  23. It is similar scenario with a Car MOT & the dashboard warning lights - if they are not fitted you don't need them, if they are fitted then they must all work (no blown bulbs etc) No-Workee, No MOT ! Full length NB's would not be easy to make compliant, but boats up to 20m (66 feet) can very simply be made ColRegs compliant, they aren't because it is 'inconvenient'. You can mount a 'White' and a bi-colour on a short pole (say 1.5 metres) fixed to your roof. Removable when not needed. Add a White setern light and that pretty much it.
