    Overtaking

Athy have you been ever been overtaken. If you slow down to tickover and they speed up to overtake, chances are you will be across the cut. The effect is not much different to passing a moored boat. My worst experience of this was towing, as I watched the lines come away from the studs and the butty followed the other boat! "giving it some welly, but it still seemed to take ages to get past each boat" sounds like a lack of water.
  2. 1000 RPM I think The McLaren History is not straight forward and I have seen quoted that 50% of production went oversea's, mainly AUS and NZ.
  3. I guess new Anodes when blacked March 2008, it could be 2009, I really struggle with dates. Old Anodes since maybe 2000. Parasal these dates are guesswork, you have the receipts so that should tell you how long the Anodes have been fitted. I think what I am trying to say is, as good as no Anodes for maybe 10 years maybe more. New Anodes not that long. edit to try and make more sense. and failed.
  4. He is alright it's the other four i'd worry about. Thiobacillus ferrooxidans, well I never. I'm speechless
  5. Perhaps you need to get out a little more often, but generally you will not find an example down the pub!
  6. My eyes scanned this thread and I saw. Sorry.
  7. Bugger, you don't have to believe me but I never spotted it. My thinking went like this just to show you how little I know and how much of a guess it was. The sheer bulk and the inlet manifold made me think Dorman. But it is not a Dorman but Dorman had something to do with McLaren. The Rocker Cover's very very similar to a smaller McLaren Ricardo at Charity, so knowing Mclaren had connections with Dorman, Ricardo and Petter I kept my options open with just McLaren. So we know make, anyone guessing model? My guess M series, so M3, 1940-1956 60-80-HP. Crane or Shunter. In a Skip? help save a mclaren MR4 Mk2................. From the above thread. "MR4 is 2 valves per cyl, indirect injection and air start with a Petter W11 compressor; while the M4 has four valves per cyl, direct injection and electric start"
  8. Looks Dorman'ish but I think a earlier Mclaren. Out of A Tank/Crane/Shunter/Boat that's got most angles covered! I need my glasses!
  9. GUCCC Satellite was originally composite in construction. Malcolm would have taken the stern and added 46' "new" hull, bottom and motor stern to make Ganymede. The other boat would be I guess 50' of GUCCC Satellite with a motor stern added and a steel bottom, making both base plates the same age, circa 1974. I don't have any information here at hand but 1974 -76 I can't remember.
  10. "Don't look much like it" what doe's? "What was your in-put with the boat?" I found the boat, I paid for the survey. I negotiated the price. Then my relationship with the boat ended! I have photograph's from before the new cabin if you wish them, probably not the best of timing but.. Do you now have gas onboard to cook?
  11. I think the baseplate is the original ¼"dating back to 1974 when Malcolm Braine gluded it all together. I had a survey carried out by Malcolm on Ganymede [Adarastea] approx 7-8 years ago. I saw pitting then, not 4mm but definite pitting. Barry Hawkins was commissioned to replace the wooden top. [The money would have better spent replating the bottom if you ask me]. So it sat around in a basin for nearly two years whilst this work was carried out, with all Hawkins liveaboard's, all I assume on landlines. Once it left Hawkin's, [that's a story in itself] the owner just never really used it. To my knowledge it was blacked maybe 2008. Before that I would guess at least not after 2002 and probably quite a while before that. So it could have spent 6-10+ years with no hull maintance or blacking. I could not believe the hull received any attention whilst at Hawkin's. £10,000 pales if you knew how much money has been spent on this boat. But that's what you get when you don't know what you are doing and listen to the wrong people and get the wrong people to do the work. Hope you have better luck. How do you get on with the Esse?

  13. Having driven a car though four steel posts concreted 2½' into the ground with 2' square ballast, those 5, sorry 4, sorry 3, sorry 2 posts are not stopping any car. One thing I have learn't all by myself is a safety feature which doe's not work fully is actually more dangerous than no safety feature at all!
  14. Thank you Springy, "¾" BSP" was part of the search string I required. The Hozelock type connector all seem to reduce back down to ½" I want to stay ¾". ¾"Brass Hose Tail Clicky No bits to lose there. I found this claim whilst searching for water hose. "¾" (19mm) hosepipe will deliver 2½ times more water than standard ½" (13mm) garden hosepipe."
  15. Turn right out of tesco carpark over the canal bridge turn left into Mentmore Road. The Festival site and parking is mile or so on the left just past the Sports Centre. Hope that helps. added quick search I found parking is £2 on site free at Tesco's.
  16. Buried ships containers is quite old skool. Any regular broadsheet reader or radio 4 listener would know this! I would have thought the correct answer would be "thankfully not" Master Tomsk this grasshopper wonder's will the advances in new LED PAR technology catch up with the high lumen HID's "Canal water" don't BW supply much cleaner handy watering point's?

  19. One side of the tap takes 12.5mm (1/2") hose. What size hose and fitting is other larger connection please?, 22mm maybe?, and can someone point me in the direction of such a fitting.
  20. It would have to be generator powered. Batteries would not be able to sustain running High Pressure Discharge Lamps.
  21. Actually the other way, floated further away! Made from Plywood. There is actually another other boat with it that also isn't floating [iron][Comet]. If you count the other other other wooden boat the other side of Charity that makes 4.
  22. First two things I was shown by old boatman was "don't stand alongside Ram's head, stand on the step" and "don't sit on the cabin when steering" that's not how we did it! It's the youngsters with bad habit's who do it now"
  23. Think alot of it depends on if you can deal with the smaller screen on a netbook, they generally have a VGA out but that option would double your power usage when used.
