If they declare they can't fix it or deem it obsolete, they'll bin it for you (or you can pay to have a duffer shipped back). It would be nice if they'd at least listen to the symptoms first before you have to shell out at your own risk.

 

I had that exact scenario (but it was £50 rather than £400) with a Victron battery charger.

I'm sure they could scavange some parts to fit another one but hey-ho !

Some of this sophisticated high end electronics is too delicate and isn't fit for purpose on boats in my opinion. You're often better off with cheaper gear that basically does the same thing with fewer functions. I'd always have a separate inverter and charger on a boat for example. I've seen too many expensive combis go wrong and if they do you've got nothing, sometimes not even shore power.
