Who said it would not. OK if its fixed and there are no signs of heat damage. Its the portable gas haters that the OP asked about. You then  brought up catalytic heaters.

Is it still acceptable to fit them?

GRP being combustible material sometimes with the roof deck possibly having a core of wood  and heat from the chimney  being  potentially very high . Not only that sufficient air supply required to avoid carbon monoxide poisoning.

On that basis a wooden boat, or a steel boat with a wooden cabin, shouldn't have a solid fuel stove. Yet lots do.

And the CO point applies to all boats, whatever they are made of.

A diesel heater on the other hand being made specifically for the purpose with the exhaust designed to operate at  a tolerable temperature.

Surly a GRP boat has the same requirements for ventilation as a steel one to mitigate the danger of CO poisoning

But it is only advisory on any boat.

Sea 'capable' boats can even have it all closed up - we have a sign over the hob saying 'open vent when cooking' (hidden behind the kettle)

BSS 8.9.2

Are warning notices displayed on sea‐going boats with closable ventilators?

On all seagoing boats with closable ventilators a warning
notice must displayed on or near all non‐room‐sealed fuel burning
appliances.
The warning notice must read: ‘WARNING – Open
ventilator(s) before use’, or equivalent wording.
