If stuff has to be removed to find the pump, it's better to start with the easy stuff, even though it turns out to be needless. Failing other clues, I think I'd have the woodwork round the blue pipe apart ...

No point removing stuff if there is no need. The pump will be where the pump wires end up, whether that's easy or hard to access. :)

So I've takn the pump apart and cleaned it (incidentally it's a gulper 220) and inspected the seal which seems fine and free from cracks, but still the water will not pump. Strangely I can see the water moving up and down inside the shower in time with the pump but isn't leaving the shower itself. What are your thoughts? Time for a new pump or is the problem somewhere else in the system?

If you can get the pump out again, i would test it, bucket of water outside, connect to two hoses, drop one in the bucket and other overboard, wire up to a 12v source and test, aim the hose up in the air to see if the pump can push the water uphill... If not then you know the pump is crap, if it can then it must be the hoses/pipes in the shower.
