bigcol
Relay still hasn't arrived yet!! eBay says it still may be on its way!!! so fingers crossed. but many thanks for the advice re we switch the wires over, and yes the light with the d ( domestics) was in fact the engine side. this must of been wired wrong from new? Until we had this trouble with the light, we of course wouldnt gave found out cheers!!! ive also found out the domestic alternator hadn't 12 v going to it so I've made a wire link until the new relay eventually arrives and now with the link we gave charging happening through the engine again i wish to thankyou all, and I mean all for helping me to sort this out, the power of the forum!!!!!! when the new relay arrives I will let you know thankyou thankyou thankyou all especially Sir Nibbet and Tony tomorrows another day but back to the genny come inverter, genny works and gives 240 v everything 240 works on the boat but although the correct lights light up, on the Stirling, its not putting charge into the batterys. i know it's asking some, I've exhausted the forum technical bank, but is there anything I can try to test the inverter? If, as you say, it works in Inverter mode then you know the battery connections are good. Therefore if it's not putting out a charge when it says it is it must be faulty. I can't think of anything else. I suggest a call to Sterling.

Tony Brooks
Well done Col but are you saying fitting the relay cured the battery charge problem as well? If so and as long as the relay was to energise the second alternator I do not see how it could. Anyway at least its fixed.
bigcol
Hi Tony a the bulbs were wire so domestic light was in fact engine and engine light was in fact domestics !!! there was a fault in the 12v supply as suggested. Connection ?? and now relays fitted it all works as in lights behave, and now charging. re the inverter genny I'm waiting for a response from Stirling and also wait to get on proper shore power to see if the genny don't like the inverter! but back to original faults all fixed col
