I think you need to look at adverts loads of GRP boats have stoves on them mine included! And guess what washing machines as well! You must have lived a sheltered life not to have seen such wonderous things:D

One rather ugly GRP boat with washing machine here:

I think it would be difficult to find a 60 foot x 7 foot GRP, or a 36 foot x 14 foot narrowboat for comparisons

I can find a 60ft x 18ft GRP.

Must be a steel 60ft x 14ft about somewhere as a fairly close comparison?

But NARROWBOAT was specifically cited

"This is reversed if you look at new boats, the grp boat will cost considerably more than a similar size steel narrowboat, so that depreciation is much greater for grp".

Yes certainly,

The Viking 26 is a foot longer but not as well equipped as thee Beetle 25.

So the Viking is only 1 ft longer yet manages to squeeze in two extra berths and an extra shower room?

Other then the battery charger and inverter which wouldn't be difficult or expensive to fit I fail to see what extra spec you are seeing in the beetle!

Look at the Viking 28

http://www.tingdeneboatsales.net/new-boat-spec?BoatID=4956480

Compare the price £54969 to the 30ft Beetle at £41350

Spec difference includes diesel v petrol, spray foam insulation, double glazing, Eberspacher blown air heating, solar panel, far greater battery capacity etc. etc.

Also note the word from in front of the starting price.

How many of those extras you have listed are included in the standard spec of the beetle?

ETA:

From this spec it seems some of your listed items are not standard kit. How much extra would they cost?

You can add batteries and solar panels to any boat for not a great outlay.

All of them.   I did hear that the TV is no longer supplied as standard so I left that off.

Neither are double glazed windows or solar panels.

The Viking comes with gas blown air heating if supplied in the Hi Line version.

The Hi Line specification of a Viking includes; Oven and grill, hot and cold water, shower and fold down sink, cassette flush toilet and antifouling. It is to purchasers choice to order a Hi Line or the standard craft which retails at £4000 less without these features. All craft built by Viking Mouldings can be fitted with further options customising each boat to individual tastes including such items as cabin heating, bow thruster, sea toilet, radio CD player. A full list is available upon request. (copied from the link)

If you are right about the solar panel and windows it must be a recent change, all existing beetles seem to have them.   There is also a Bluetooth sound system installed and a stainless water tank instead of a bag.

How are you comparing 'similar size'. You cant compare grp with a steel nb based on size ...... as narrow boats are long and narrow (surprisingly). You cant compare a 60ft nb with a 60ft grp. Of course at this size the grp boat would be mega bucks more. The nearest maybe apples to apples comparison is a 60ft nb with a 40ft long 14ft wide grp.....but even then, is it a sailing yacht, a offshore powerboat, a non planing grand banks....? They are all so different. The only thing they have in common is that they are boats, so any bits you buy for maintenance (or add ons) cost a fortune if bought from a swindelers or marine outlet.

Bob I think you need to read later posts.

Ha. I think you're right :P. My laptop was not connected to tinternt and only updated as I pressed the submit button. Duh. What a muppet!

Still it is difficult to compare a steel nb with anything! ....other than a grp or wood 60' by 7' boat......and there's not many of them round now ..new.
