If you find this challenging, best you stay away from the K&A. It will defeat you within hours, if not minutes!
Dave Payne
Not so much challenging, more annoying. I tend to do the locks/bridges whilst the GF steers, now she is great at steering, just not so much at concentrating whilst stationary, the phone tends to distract her so when the boat starts to drift off i have to keep an eye on her and the lock/bridge! MtB
Apologies for my not very helpful comment. Hovering mid-canal is actually a very useful skill to develop for both you and the GF. It actually needs just as much attention as cruising along, more probably, so using the phone at the same time will lead to it all going wrong! When single handing if a lock landing is short I'd just put either the bow or the stern on it, tie off to a bollard and leave the other end of the boat the drift in the wind if necessary while I get the lock or bridge ready. If another boat is actually moored on it, just breast up to them.
