The best Spanish wine in my experience is the cheapest. Bought some rose for 1.80 a bottle which I thought was very palatable until I tried the 0.80 bottle - even better

 

Lidl, Maspalomas.

 

 

Same with French wine bought in France. The screw-cap no-name 5Fr a litre stuff we were drinking 25 years ago was FAR better than the mid range stuff at six times the price in the supermarket. They say when in France either buy very cheap or very expensive. The mid-price stuff is the same junk they send to the UK.

Yeah, it was a mate who told us. "Buy the cheapest you can fInd". We figured he was joking at first but then he insisted that he was right and our experience agreed with his advice.
