I certainly wouldn't try to cut it to the final profile with a DIY jigsaw - you'll never keep it vertical.

 

one technique I use is a series of cuts with a 4" circular saw for convex curves, or a good jigsaw for the concave bits, then use a belt sander with 60 grit to form the final curves - concave and convex.

I have used a jig to cut slightly oversize then used a router freehand to get it close and then lots of sanding to finish it.
