Chinese alternators

As with all Chinese stuff, they are capable of turning out first rate kit but equally capable of turning out sub standard goods. Mostly depends on quality control so I wouldn't for instance buy direct from eBay without accepting the gamble. If they have a UK distributor then you have at least a local recourse in case of faults

Interesting topic.

I have not looked at the original source of alternators but I would expect manufacturers to outsource in the same way that they do for most other equipment.

Are there many ordinary alternators which are not made in China?

I know there are specialist types but if you are buying a standard alternator I would expect it to be Made In China regardless of the brand

Maybe alternators are an exception?

Quality Control is the key as mentioned.

I sometimes wonder if QC failed items are ending up on eBay rather than in the skip so if that's what is meant by Chinese Alternators then yes it could be pretty dodgy.

I have purchased some Ginlong generators before. They were of good quality and made to a high standard.

But then again looking at some of the Chinese trade site, some of the generators made by other manufactures

looked rubbish. I would have not touched them with a bargepole,

Sounds ban on to me.

I having no direct experience with buying such alternators direct would expect that 90% work without fault from new and give good life, but that 90% of those which do not never work at all or fail in the first hour or so of use.

Hence if bought from a reputable distributor who will exchange doa parts next day and no cost, your exposed risk is negligible
