Removing our faulty inverter and keeping power whilst its being fixed

Hi all,

Our inverter needs to go back to the Netherlands to be repaired.

So my question is, can I remove the inverter, and to keep our shore power, connect the AC IN and AC OUT wires together connected to the inverter,

and then put a 12V battery charger on the 12V line to keep that going and the battery's charged ?

The full details are here of the fault for future reference

Thanks

Yes, of course, but remove or properly insulate the battery to inverter/charger cables, good plan is to get a cheap IP6 junction box from Secrewfix and join your low voltage AC cables inside it for a pukka job even though its temporary.

Junction box less than a fiver http://www.screwfix.com/p/ip65-adaptable-box-80-x-80-x-52mm/14556

2 cable glands less than £1.50 http://www.screwfix.com/p/tower-male-comp-gland-white-20mm-pack-of-2/45943

Good post. I'd give you a Greenie if I wasn't on my phone.

Dust resistant and high pressure water jet proof?

I would have thought dustproof and low pressure water resistant would be easier to achieve. (IP65)

I think for the purpose IP55 would be more than good enough but hey, we buy what's readily available.

I know.... but I don't want to fall foul of the accuracy police blush.png

After all, there is no difference between rain lightly falling on a piece of electrical kit and the full power output of a pressure washer being sprayed on it. As any fule kno.
