minus 7 at Grove this morning , car door latches frozen solid and hand brake frozen on .. Canal frozen solid as well,

old habits die hard...

I never use the handbrake, always put the car in 1st or reverse (or P on an auto) usually with a fairly good turn on the steering too. only time the handbrake gets used is for the MOT or if I'm jacking the vehicle up for any reason.

Door catches can be fun, I remember an old cortina estate where 3 of us got in and then found that the door catches had frozen open (no amount of slamming etc would make them hold the doors closed), ended up with the passengers holding doors closed for 45 minutes before we got them to shut properly.

I've never had any condensation on my house windows since I installed double glazing. Why isn't it standard on boats?

Some boats have double glazed units, but boats flex, expand, contract and are subject to more impacts the your average house. To cope with that double-glazed units fitted to boats must be higher quality otherwise they'll get moisture and mildew between the glazing. So it all comes down to cost.

Had this also this morning, was very very cold on Vidar, even with the heating on.

First and last winter i have no stove!

-4 this morning but our boat is toasty, no condensation or ice on the inside. Absolutely love it.

David , the sooner you get a stove the happier you will be . Windows and doors will be open again this evening to cool down.
