clairespringer Posted November 26, 2015 Report Posted November 26, 2015 Hello, i've recently bought a boat which has very flimsy draughty stern door. The stern door is our main entrance and is currently a stable style to one side (starboard). We are conscious about boat safety having been broken into before so are considering getting a steel door made as a replacement in the same stable style way. What is the best way of getting this done? Would it be a whole lot easier (and cheaper?) to ask a local carpenter to come and make us a solid oak door and frame? Does anyone have any local contacts around Oxfordshire? sorry i'm quite new to this, only having rented boats before! Thanks very much, Claire

I have heard reports that they do good work but I have no direct personal experience (or involvement!) http://www.kedianengineering.co.uk/
Nightwatch Posted November 26, 2015 Report Posted November 26, 2015 I too have heard good things about Martin at Kedian. I think you will find he will be mentioned again. Would you have wood inserts?
Martin Kedian Posted November 26, 2015 Report Posted November 26, 2015 Thank you very much for the recommendations Cheers Martin
clairespringer Posted November 26, 2015 Author Report Posted November 26, 2015 Thanks so much for your recommendation, Kedian looks amazing! I will be in contact. Claire
The Boater Posted November 26, 2015 Report Posted November 26, 2015 Don't forget the vent that will have to be in the new door whatever it is made of.
Boat&Bikes Posted November 26, 2015 Report Posted November 26, 2015 Don't forget the vent that will have to be in the new door whatever it is made of. Possibly but not always. Ian.
Martin Kedian Posted November 27, 2015 Report Posted November 27, 2015 That's correct Ian. However I usually fit vents in any case
lexicon Posted November 27, 2015 Report Posted November 27, 2015 Another recommendation for kedian from a satisfied customer
Lazwal Posted November 30, 2015 Report Posted November 30, 2015 Martin made our rear doors after I initially had some made and fitted by a so called welder. He made a fantastic job and was very quick. I cannot praise him enough after my first encounter was an absolute nightmare.I would definitely recommend him.
Martin Kedian Posted December 1, 2015 Report Posted December 1, 2015 Thank you for your kind recommendation always appreciated. Martin
Sir Percy Posted December 3, 2015 Report Posted December 3, 2015 Reading between the lines, is the boat a woodentop?
