Our tiller has developed a squeak and although I have pumped in grease through the greasing nozzle (which oozes out the bearing seal) it hasn't cured it. I don't know the design of the tiller or whether it has any other bearings. The top bearing is a 4-bolt flanged bearing unit with greasing nipple.

Mine has no grease nipple, but used to squeal. I used to spray WD40 aroound the stem which would shut it up for a while, but eventually undid the four bolts and packed it with copper grease (not sure if this is right stuff, but I had some.) Been fine since.

If you get a chance to inspect the Skeg, place 2p or simular piece of copper between base of rudder and cup on many older styled tiller!

I wouldn't. Modern 2 Ps are brown steel. The idea is right though. an old 1/2 d would do as would a suitable brass or copper washer.
