  1. Lifesaver...best regards Neil
  2. Thankyou, I'll be taking the train up this weekend with hylomar and more running in oil this weekend....your a lifesaver ???
  3. Hi Richard, afraid I won't be able to travel tomy family members narrowboat til the weekend and hope to solve the problem when I get there. Basically.. the SR2 was completely reconditioned (Primrose supplied all the parts?) The engine / gearbox is supported on the bearers by the gearbox on one side and by a cradle/brecket that is bolted to the engine on the over.., these horizontal bolts are weeping engine oil, as is (as I have now found out) the bolt that holds the bracket for the throttle cable near the ball joint. Which is also mounted onto an engine bolt. It had been suggested that we use annealed washers, but as Boater Sam has pointed, some kind of thread seal would be more practical, What would you recommend?
  4. Ahhh...Mounting bracket... That's the terminology I should have used...and yes oil is seeping from these and other bolts that afix the teleflex cable in position... Thanks so much for your helpful reply?
  5. When re-installing an SR2 should copper washers be used when mounting the engine on the cradle? If this is the case it may explain an engine oil leak! Thanks in advance
  6. Thank you all for your assistance. Part ordered and in the post. Thanks to CWDF
  7. So sorry Paddles up... I thought I replied to you at mid day! Instead... I replied to Richard TWICE . . DOH! Yes I would be very interested in an external Pin and spring. . if available AND IF I won't be messing Richard about Best regards and thank you for replying
  8. Thanks so much for your swift reply Richard and you were so helpful on the phone this morning. I look forward to doing business through you soon My best regards to you Neil

  10. Not sure what model..G1 G2?
  11. That! ..Would be marvelous
  12. Arrg, not sure if it's the software or my incompetence, My apologies Richard,...yes the external one, it has been suggested that I build the 10mm indent up with weld, but my preference would be to source a good one ..and a new spring for good measure.. Thank you for your patience.!
  13. Arrg Finding it really difficult to use my new phone, my apologies Richard....yes the external one, it has been suggested that I build the 10mm indent up with weld, but soursing a new one would be more to my liking, I thought replacing the spring would be a good idea whilst I'm at it.
  14. Ha ha thank you Gareth, I've just got back to take a pic as I'm not sure if it's a G1 or G2.....Lister HA2
  15. Would any of you gentlmen ..or Ladies know where I may sourse a Pin and spring in good condition for the gear selector. Many thanks Regards Neil
  16. Thank you Gareth,, this is really increasing my knowledge base
  17. Most certainly Richard, I've given my mechanic quite a list of tasks to undertake and I expect it to be a long learning curve. Thanks again Regard Neil Thats interesting, thankyou MP
  18. Many thanks for your prompt reply Richard, I am currently adding a little gearbox oil almost every time I run the engine and obviously have a small leak, I have employed the services of a competent mechanic who is not familiar with the Blackstone box and we have been looking through your "whats in the box" so iI am very grateful for your input. Best regards Neil
  19. What gearbox oil would you recommend for a Blackstone gear box? have been using and topping up with EP80/90 grade hydraulic oil to the 1/2 fill mark on the dipstick as recommended by the previous owner, as there are known issues i believe of the hydraulic oil contaminating the engine oil sump i believe Im sure that I read somewhere that it was possible to replace the hydraulic oil with a certain grade of engine oil, ive tried to find that post without success. Im wondering if anyone would know what this replacement is and any thoughts on the matter. Best regards Neil
  20. Thanks Nicknorman, I think your right, what makes things more confusing is that I have 2 Monitors, One for the Solar and one for the Alternator charger And although they often tally up, sometimes they are different!!!
  21. Sorry bottle, I missed that post. Your absolutely right ( and look at me Multiquote)
  22. Hi Guys, Thanks for your comments so far and sorry for not being online as my daughter sometimes hogs the Laptop and ive been busy cruising and commuting| Also excuse my ignorance as I havent taken the time to learn how to cut and snip posts so my replies may be eratic ( oh and I havent found spellcheck!) My original query was regarding wiring in the solar more efficiently, you see when I moved onto this boat a year ago I hadnt drawn a schematic of the wiring and rather than rushing the job of transfering my existing solar KIt and maybe making a stupid mistake, I instead wired them up through the batteries, reasoning that I could make improvements later.....Well that time has come!!! When I originally bought my Solar, I deliberately overspec'd for Winter and mooring near tree's etc Putting aside the fact that the Solar Controller doesnt mesh Ideally with AGM, but that the Alternater to Battery charger does THIS IS MY REASONING (From what ive learned so far (which may be erroneous)) Batteries have a finite amount of charge Cycles but considerately more part Charge cycles before they inevitably begin to breakdown and fail (thats why I prefer that they dont discharge too much but, hey Im not obsessed by this....its a rule of thumb When the MPPTMax Point Tracking) goes into "Float" charge It restricts the Amperage whilst conditioning the batteries, BUT at the same time because of my current setup the batteries may also be being depleted at the same time. (This may confuse the Algarithms !!!??) and also wasting its potential when the sun is shining! Would using the LOAD function reduce (part) (dis)charge cycles and hence additional wear to the batteries It was originally designed for Street lighting and was designed both to charge and discharge the batteries at night Got to stop now as im up at 5 am. And thanks guys for taking the time to help me Bless
