Was putting together a talk on the Olympic Waterways yesterday and thought people might be interested to see before and present pictures of Carpenters Road Lock, the first from 1993 and the second from last Saturday, a week after the South Park opened:

AFAIK there are no plans at the mometn to open these waterways up to all and sundry - just special events like on the 10th. The southern section acts as flood defence and the lockie keeps a eye on water levels, the northern section is blocked for the next few years due to Crossrail. Access to the southern part is either via Carpenters Road Lock (if you give CRT a few million £ they will open it for you) or via City Mill Lock - bookable via CRT. Its still a secure area so booms in place and at the moment boaters have to wear lifejackets and have anchors ready etc.
