Alan Saunders
I am using my brother's PC so had to remember the address of this site and came up with www.canalworld.co.uk - old news, old forum. Would not let me log in. Clearly I guessed www.canalworld.net or I would not be here but I think a little fix is needed? Cheers - Alan Edited January 22, 2005 by Alan Saunders

Undt I am ze profezzional dammit! .NET is intended for network service providers. A forum might be considered a network service but only if the provider also owns the regional domain. It is a pity that there is a shortage of names but, there you have it, designed by Yanks! Perhaps the owner of the .co.uk domain should bow to his usurper? Bernie
This site has always been .net and never .co.uk. The other site was set up long after this one, but with a similar URL which has confused a few. Edited January 22, 2005 by Bernie

Alan <{POST_SNAPBACK}> The domain endings like .net, .co.uk, .com, .info etc.. were all setup to have there own meanins. However now people don't really know what they mean and don't care - they just type it into their address bar.

Jon
Not sure what you mean by a .net rip off. See evidence below... From Whois: Domain Name.......... canalworld.net Creation Date........ 2001-03-09 Registration Date.... 2001-03-09 Expiry Date.......... 2008-03-09 Organisation Name.... Jonathan Belcher And Relevant Dates (canalworld.co.uk):Registered on: 28-Feb-2004 Renewal Date: 28-Feb-2006 Last updated: 14-Jan-2005 I am sure that you can see, canalworld.co.uk was registered on 09-03-2004, while canalworld.co.uk was registerd much earlier As for technicalities for domain names, if that was strictly enforced, they wouldn't be available for sale to the general public via sites like getdotted.com, and many other resellers. While I appreciate that technically you may be correct, many people who use the internet probably wouldn't know that (I didn't!). Perhaps next time you could get your facts together before you start publically accusing me of "ursurping" another site. Interesting.... but not relevant. Alan Saunders
I stand corrected - sorry about the lack of research on my part. It is unusual for someone to register a .net domain when the .co.uk is available! Perhaps it became available later? Perhaps I should take a breathalyser test before posting - except in the pub'? Maffi - I knew how to find the old forum but I was under the illusion that I had found it at canalworld.co.uk! I can still browse the old forum but, unfortunately, not search it. Jon
The old forum unfortunately had no search facilities, hence the upgrade. The .co.uk domain was available, however with limited budget etc, I only got the .net domain. Jon
