Croxton Embankment

After a nearly a week of this stretch of the Canal being reopened and everything on this stretch now appears to be doing alright. Over the last week the Site team have removed the site compound, completed some of the minor bits and pieces still remaining on the site, and carried out some offside reed removal to help with navigation along this stretch

I have to say a really big thank you to Mr Maddock the owner of Croxton Hall Farm who during the Project has been a great help to us. Who during the works has allowed us unhindered access to the canal across his land. Without this we would simply not have been able to get the works done as quickly..

Over the next week we will be looking to do some wash wall works in several areas south of the Embankment. This will be to increase the free board on the canal in these areas and reduce the risk of any further over topping of the canal in this area.

Dutton Breach

Finally we have had the breakthrough we needed and have started on site. Our Contractor have now got on to site and begun the enabling works for the repair of the Breach. Machines are currently working in the field adjacent to the canal, constructing the stone haul road so that we can access the Breach site fully.

Our Design team have also been working really hard and we will be issuing the final design to our Contractor in the next week.

Sky have also completed their diversion of their Fibre Optics on to overhead poles so that the Construction team can excavate the Breach unhindered.

Over the next week, our Contractor will continue setting up and a full site compound will be coming soon too.

Just a thought. I wonder if the excavation for cables, and the subsequent backfilling, has allowed an ingress of water deep into the towpath helping the slip on its way?
