mikevye
We have holidayed with black prince for many years and done the llan on numerous occasions without a hint of bottoming. I'm sure their fleet draws 2'6" so I would just go for it, any doubts contact BP for confirmation. I'm sure a lot of these stories abound from years ago when there definately was a problem but with many updates involving precast concrete sections the problem is almost eliminated. There is a meandering section approximately three miles out of trevor that can catch the unwary but stick to the centre dont cut corners and you'll be OK. Just remember that in the event of grounding reversing will invariably not answer the problem steer the boat ahead slowly so the stern goes to the centre of the canal then reverse, works every time. Merlin
Hi Tommo We draw 2' 3" and have not come near the bottom, we have never had any problems on this section in recent years so you should be OK. Another tip is if your water tank is forward keep it topped up, this helps lift the stern where your 2'6" draft will be measured from. Hairy-Neil
What are the thoughts on this part of the Llangollen when drawing around 2’6”. Tommo The Grand Union Canal Carrying Co. motor boat "Bath" has been all the way up to the guaging house, perhaps 5 years ago.

Keeping Up
Some years back we set off from Llangollen just after Easter; at the shallows we met the first of the ex-working boats from the Ellesmere Port gathering, stuck fast. We tied bow to bow and reversed back towards Llangollen. After several attempts we got them free and towed them past the shallows. We set off downstream again and at the shallows we met the second of the ex-working boats from the Ellesmere Port gathering, stuck fast. We tied bow to bow and reversed back towards Llangollen. After several attempts we got them free and towed them past the shallows. After several attempts we got them free and towed them past the shallows. We set off downstream again and at the shallows we met the fourth of the ex-working boats from the Ellesmere Port gathering, stuck fast. We tied bow to bow and reversed back towards Llangollen. After several attempts we got them free and towed them past the shallows. ... Repeat for the whole day... We spent the next night back in Llangollen with them.
