Boat electrics training

Featured Posts

Hi all,

I am relatively new to narrow boating (January this year).

I can understand the majority of boating things and have some/most of them under control but the electics leave me baffled :help: . Does anyone know of a training course that can be held, in part, on my boat that could give an insight into the basic knowledge of batteries, charging, ammeters, voltmeters, multimeters ... Oh my head now hurts.

At present I am moored on the Thames near Windsor.

Thanks in advance

Hi,

Not sure about on your boat but River Canal Rescue run a Boat Electrics course. These were run by Tony Brooks and I found it an excellent course. I believe Tony has retired now but may be around on this forumn?

Tony's website also has a lot of good information

Hi Daiboy

Yes Tony's site (link above) is very good but as Tony himself will tell you they are notes for the course and more explanation is given then.

Two more sites for you:

http://www.batteryfaq.org/

and

http://www.smartgauge.co.uk/technical1.html

I hope Dan & Co do not mind me pointing out that if anyone wants more explanation or want help solving a problem (mechanical or electrical) then I am happy to respond to email questions. Sometimes on here the questions get answered in so may ways the questioner must get confused.
