November - Oxford - Thames and GU closed

Our annual November trip on Badsey is always interesting with the reported closures for work but this year it seems even more alarming. For the last three years we have tried to get Badsey to Oxford from Hillmorton but been stopped by closures each time. This year is no exception as we can get to Oxford but can not get back due to an Oxford canal closure on 7thNov. Thought we could keep going South onto the Thames and back up the GU which would be nice but the Thames is closed on 1stNov.

Oh Well, we'll go down the GU (again) to River Wey where we used to be NT River Wardens!

Nope cos it closes at Cosgrove on 28th and we might not be back by then.

Looks like a holiday cruise just to beautiful Watford where at least we can have that long promised silencer made for the National engine and perhaps a long chat with those nice folk at BW HQ. It is a great shame that the EU and BW can not coordinate their closures to keep some route open and alternate closures of entire routes to give us some chance.

Hasn't BW HQ moved north?

Thought I read in my local (Watford) paper that the site was being redeveloped.

May be wrong!

www.britishwaterways.co.uk/contact still states:

Head Office & Customer Service Centre

64 Clarendon Road

Watford

Herts

WD17 1DA

But could be they are pretending they're not there

and it is a long walk from the canal.

The point - if there was one - of my post, is that we are finding it quite difficult to move anywhere in the coming month.

I do agree we are based at Calcutt, and with Napton closed and the culvert at Lower Shuckbourgh stopping us getting to Braunston, Leamington is the only direction we can go and that is straight into 20 locks, not good for a relaxing weekend out!
