I'm looking for a rudder indicator. Had planned on Vetus, having a Vetus winch and bow thruster. All the pictures make them look good but seeing one on the Vetus stand at the IWA left me thinking it looked a bit flimsy. Surely somebody on this forum has dealings with them and can point me in the right direction.

I favour a length of cord wrapped around a master spoke on the wheel.

Hi Tony

Tried that but it's nearly 4 turns lock to lock so I can have 3 positions for a midships rudder.

If you're turning, then it's the wrong one.

Simples.

After fitting a steering knob on our nb steering wheel I then never used the wheel rim instead just relying on the knob so I replaced the wheel with a simple crank and with having only 2.5 turns lock to lock I found an indicator to be unnecessary.

You don't say what type of boat you have, but I presume you have a rudder stock ??

If you just want a single display and sensor, I would personally go for one of the yachty types such as Raymarine or Simrad.

ASAP Supplies do some cheap ones, which I've used before with some success.

Depends on the complexity of the display you want really.
