DeanS
Hi all. Our first destination after leaving Dewsbury in April will be Leeds, via a few stops along the way at smaller towns. Leeds has visitor moorings at Clarens Dock, and apparently Granary Wharf. Can anyone provide any helpful info on how to spend an enjoyable time mooring in this specific and general area? We have about 2weeks to kill before having to make our way back again to Doncaster/Sheffield by early May. Thanks for any suggestions
yorkshireboats
Hey Dean, Just to let you know when you arrive into Clarence dock moor on the starboard side as you enter as there is currently no power to the visitor moorings. Clarence dock has a fair bit to do from the armories to the casino and theres a handy Tescos aswell. Leeds city center is only a 5 minute walk away aswell. Theres a nice pub close by called the palace, if your in there at the right time theres a few local boaters in there usally around last orders. Grannary wharf is a strange one if i remember rightly they wanted to charge for over night stopovers although I think this has been sorted now. Can always play it safe and moor on the port side as you come out of river lock behind flyboat. Everyone else seems to so its a safe bet. Just leave pleanty of room behind her so I can get in and out. If you have enough time you can always cruise up to Rodley. You need to book passage through Oddy lock although I think the lock keeper will be back on duty then. If you need anything whilst in leeds let me know as I'm in Clarence dock myself. hope this helps a bit Morgan
Jim Riley
take a detour from castleford to ferrybridge and back, it's great chugging along on the big river.
Naughty Cal
The detour to Selby is well worth the time as well. The Selby canal is really pretty along its short length.

Naughty Cal
There are plenty of places to visit in the area. You may find a month isnt long enough Some of our favourites in that neck of the woods are: Selby Basin - All the facilities of a big town within walking distance. Beal Lock - Small village with a couple of pubs within walking distance of moorings. Pollington - Excellent curry house in the village Sykehouse - Out in the sticks mooring Thorne - All facilities close to hand and a handful of pubs to choose from Stainforth - Good pub Keadby - At first glance this is a dismal place but we have always wnjoyed our evenings in The Old South Yorkshire. And this is just on the short section we have navigated. We at some point want to go to: Leeds Wakefield Castleford You should easily fill a months worth of cruising with this little lot

I discovered to my cost (no Elsan trolley) that the sanitary station is a long walk from the visitor moorings. You tramp for what seems miles through the tourists visiting the Amories before you manage to find them. Carting a suitcase full of excrement is not my favourite occupation at the best of times. Carting a suitcase full of excrement through a crowd of tourists and besuited businessmen is, I find, faintly embarassing. I wonder why. Dalesman
Take a trip to Skipton "Gateway to the Dales" via the famous Bingley Five Rise locks, plenty of good mooring places and pubs along the way.
