mrsmelly
hi,looking to purchase a sofa/bed for narrowboat but all the ones veiwed are too long. will be very grateful if anyone can provide any information on how they overcome this problem or suggest any retailers who may specialise in non-standard sizes. kind regards keith Hi Keith Put the letters NABRU into google search and out comes just the firm you want. My mate has just taken delivery from them and they have loads of different sizes and styles, the quality for the price is good and they come flat packed. We are getting one when our puppy groes up. Said mate says go for the Narrow arm version as these are quite wide enough and comfy. Hope this helps. stagedamager
Hi there, We are looking to get a nabru sofa for our house, we visited their showroom and meticulously looked at every possible scenario of sofa they build, and, being a carpenter, gave them a pounding!!!! i have to say i was very impressed, the structure, for MDF is strong, and the cushions comfy. there is an option for hard and soft seating options, i would go for hard, as the cushions are 8" thick, and IMO, don't need soft webbing underneath them, as over time, they should soften anyway, but when ordering there is the option of them supplying both as the seat base fits in the seat. The only negative i could foresee is the sofa bed matress, it is very thin, we plan to overcome this by purchasing a matress topper from ikea, which is thicker and approx. the same size, and should fold away with it. They will build to any spec, within their guidelines and the biggest thing delivered is the bed mechanism. They give the various options when ordering, for example scothguard and storage boxes, but to be honest, i personally think it isn't worth it, as the scotch guard, as i am led to believe is just out of a can anyway, and can be purchased cheaper elsewhere and being the structure is MDF panels, its almost like compartments are already there so storage boxes take up more, valuable space. we plan to have spare bedding under ours in vacuum storage bags. If your in the area, the Nabru showroom is about 1/4 mile from the GU just south of Uxbridge on the big industrial estate on the offside. The only other thing to say is there was a stand at crick which was specialising in Narrow boat sofa beds. Their website wasn't up and running at the time of the show but i'll have a look for the leaflet and try and post more information on it! Hope this helps Regards Dan
Tillerpin
We got ours from Wilsons of Kinver. It's very comfortable both as a sofa and as a bed and looks good too (and no I don't work for them !).
Sarah and Ian
Another vote for Wilsons Had ours coming upto a year now. Very comforable. Both in Settee and Bed formats. Not the cheapest on the market.
Bones
there is one at john lewis for 150pounds that has been recommended on here before. I had a look at it and it was comfortable but I thought it was a bit low.
Bunny
We have 2 single chairs from Wilson's which fold out into single beds, had them 6 years now and just as good now as the day they built them. Bunny
Québec
Not to everyone's taste I know...but we eventually went for a futon sofa bed, it's our main seat - very comfortable - but only an occasional bed (also very comfortable). Do you want it for main seating/bed or for main seating + occasional bed? What's the maximum length that will fit? Also, what's the width you want for the bed i.e. 'standard double, or larger? This site (no connection with company) gives a good idea of the various choices/configurations. There are cheaper versions around on the web Clicky Edited July 14, 2010 by Québec

Bunny We have exactly the same, bought seven years ago and still perfect. We also took delivery of them by boat on Nellie's maiden voyage, as their workshop is next to the canal in Kinver. ymu
I'm a bit late then ... but a good design for a narrowboat is a sofa where the back flips down to make a bed - you can open them out into a full-size double-bed whilst only needing 4'6" of boat width. One like this (not a very cheap example). Edited July 16, 2010 by ymu
