What removes silicone sealant?

Featured Posts

Hello

I am in the process of polishing my window frames. The previous muppets that owned my boat decided to paint them, that would not have been bad accept for the fact that hey have painted them badly and over a lip of silicone. The silicone is then feathered out with a finger probably. Anyway its a right mess, and I am surprised the paint has eve stuck.

I have tried paint stripper, wire wool, fingernails, even 320 grit but that won't remove it. One other consideration is the surrounding paint on the cabin side. I don't need to be damaging that :-)

Well, I'm not taking the p*ss, (honest!), but "Silicone Sealant Remover" is very effective at removing Silicone Sealant.

I'm not sure how effective it would be at not removing ajoining paint though, as when we used it on our windows, they were not attached to the boat.

Even with this you may need several applications - it's horrible stuff really!

Just Google "Silicone Sealant Remover" - lots of hits, but I can't remember the brand we dad success with, I'm afraid - I think it had a German type of name, possibly.

Talking of lots of money.......... how does 150ml for £7.78 B&Q sound. Bl**dy expensive I think.

So any home made recipes? I have been told standard thinner will do it, but could this be made into a gel or paste with something?

Thinking caps on chaps and chapesses. What about food thickener or gelatine?
