Not the Anchor type I'm used to.

Just as an aside (it may be of interest to those considering buying an anchoring 'system') what size/length of chain and anchorplait did you go with ?

As you know I went with 100% 10mm chain which just self-stows in the locker (or plastic tub) as you pull it in. The downside, which is a benefit when anchoring, is obviously the weight, at 2.3kgs/meter 50 metres is a bit of a handful, but for 'river depths' the chain could obviously be much shorter (maybe as little as 12-15 metres).

When manually pulling the chain in you are only ever pulling in the 'water depth' (in mts) x 2.3kg, until you get to the last few feet when you you have the chain and anchor weight combined.

10mm shackles + 5m of 8mm chain + 25m of 14mm anchorplait, IIRC this is what Kobra recommend for the 10kg for this type of use. Also keeps the weight of the whole assembly down in case you need to get it in and out of the bow locker or lug it from one end of the boat to the other.

Thats a pretty well matched system.

A 60' x 18' boat in a 'storm' (maybe 'close' comparison to doing an emergency stop) applies approx 1800 kg of horizontal force to the anchor.

A 60' x 18' boat 'normal anchoring wind/tide loads' applies approx 900kg of horizontal force to the anchor.

Your (Calibrated) 8mm chain has a breaking load of ~3200kg

Your 14mm anchorplait has a breaking load ~ 4500kg

You'll have to start doing some practicing with it.
