PRM120 Repair

Featured Posts

Hi. I have a PRM120 D2 with a broken output shaft. I have access to a D3 which I could use for bits. Before I start ripping it apart, I know that the ratios are different, but I'm wondering if they share the same shaft?  The gear just slide off. Any help would be gratefully appreciated.

I'd agree it is highly likely they are the same. One way to find out for sure is to look up the part number of it in each manual and if the. numbers are the same, the part is the same and interchangeable. And vice versa if they are different.

Hi Winegumm, the output shafts are the same for all ratios. Part no.MT 8089.   The input shafts are different.

They are all the same shaft no matter which ratio.  The manual is https://www.marinedieselbasics.com/wp-content/uploads/PRM120.pdf.

Thank you all! That solves that. If I had read the manual properly, I would have seen it!

Very helpful, I will commence the butchering!

Just remember, dont force it, use a bigger hammer ;)

Hi, yes I read about the shims. I've only disturbed the output shaft and was hoping to get away without doing any shimming, as the bearing cups are still in place. I guess I should get my head around the measurement diagram (buy myself a vernier) and check that the swimming is correct.

I have a PRM120 d2 which you are welcome to have if it's any use to you. Ahead clutches gone but otherwise OK. Located near Gloucester or could take to Hatherton marina in the next week.
