Personally I always try to do my food shopping on the Shropshire Union. 

While I find The Erewash is best for ironmongery. 

When it comes to wool and patterns I really don't have a preference.

Just to carry this thread on.... it's a handy reference.

 

We've stopped the night by the Plume of Feathers, Barlaston (by Bridge 103). There's a handy shop and post office just over the bridge from the Feathers.

 

 

Just to add, there's Stone Chandlers just before the services, Newcastle Road Lock 29. It's a biggish shop. We phoned them a couple of days before we passed to make sure they had what we wanted, they didn't, but they ordered what we wanted for when we passed. There's a one boat space available outside, we were lucky that it was available.
