Food shopping on the Trent & Mersey

A new M&S has been built opposite Stone bottom lock.

What used to be the Co-op is now B&M bargains

Sainsbury is walkable from Etruria top lock as is Tesco.

It's a bit barren down the Cheshire locks. There is a small supermarket across from the pub in Rode Heath.

The canal circumvents Sandbach.

Tesco express, Lidl and Morrisons available in Middlewich

There's a canalside farm shop at Great Haywood. Pricey, but good quality.

Has a new bakery as well now.

And a good little supermarket in Great Haywood village as well, and another one canalside at Barlaston.

Not sure I would describe it like that.

Feck me, the poor guy is setting off weighing 11 stone and will be a fat ba$¥ard like me when he gets to the Big Lock

I can see how access to supermarkets could change his girth, but how it could change the circumstances of his birth eludes me.

By the way that was a lovely selfie of you and Kathie departing Stowe Hill.

Just carry on beyond Middlewich and do the Huddersfield Narrow, or the Rochdale. Fewer supermarkets and he'll work off the weight he's put on.

Do the Huddersfield Narrow route and you pass directly below the Asda in Ashton. How much closer to a supermarket can you get?

Rats! I completely forgot about those two. I've even moored opposite the Stalybridge Tesco too. Wonder if Asda can lower your shopping directly in to your boat if you opt for delivery?

In Stone, as well as the large M&S Foodstore next to Star Lock there is a Morrsions in the town just off the pedestrianised high street. There's a varied selection of other shops too.

And a Co-op at the top end of the high street.
