  1. I had a similar issue on a Beta 43. Started fine, ran for several minutes then cut out. I could manually pump the system and it would start and generally kept running. It was found to be an air leak. All the joints on the fuel lines were tight but one joint still allowed air into the system. The joint was changed and I've not had an issue since.
  2. Some people have a fantastic imagination. That is brilliant
  3. Thanks for all your responses. I will also replace the flashing neon and hopefully I'll have three working red lights for the foreseeable future.
  4. Hi Jen, I get the same result when I am on Inverter and on two different shore connections. Can I ask one last question on this subject? The two lights at the bottom show the polarity is correct. The light on the right actually flashes most of the time. It has done since I've owned the boat, some 11 years and the vast majority of that time the boat is connected to shore power. Could this be a fault with the neon? I have checked the connections and they are tight.
  5. Thanks Loddon, much appreciated. The link you sent does not have red units but I've found a different supplier and asked them to confirm my neon's ate the same as theirs. Is it worth buying a spare?
  6. I have three lights on my AC panel, one shows power on and the other two need to be lit to show correct polarity. One of the lights have failed and I would like to replace it. The neon has a resister built in and I cant see what colour bands it has on it. Also, are these neon's fit all or do I need a specific size to fit into my existing red enclosures mounted in the panel?
  7. Two pack paint is not really that much more than quality bitumen but last 3 times longer so saves the hassle of docking. The hull needs to be prepared properly the first time it is applied and this can be expensive.
  8. Thanks Tracy, Silicon sounds like the answer but it needs to be a little bit cleaner than it is. I’ll use some brake cleaner to clean the paintwork around it then try silicon. Sorry for the confusion. The cover is lose, whatever it is covering does not appear to be lose. I’ll leave well alone, clean it and try a blob of silicon. Thank you all for taking the trouble to respond, It is very much appreciated.
  9. Thank you Tony, at least I know what it is now. I will do as you say and see if I can squash it a little or stick it in place. I certainly won’t be adjusting anything in that area!! Thanks Tracy, Silicon sounds like the answer but it needs to be a little bit cleaner than it is. I’ll use some brake cleaner to clean the paintwork around it then try silicon.
  10. It’s not lose, the offending item seems to be a cover over something and it is lose and rattles. I was asking 1. what is the cover protecting 2. is there an obvious way to stop is rattling when the engine is running? You are quite right, maybe I should sit back and chill and not worry, the boat moored behind me chucks out so much smoke with the engine runs it choked the moored either side. Maybe none of us should worry about that either? Some of us like to try and look after our belongings, some clearly don’t care!!
  11. Here are the pictures. The cover is in the centre of the picture. Second picture
  12. I didn’t think to take a picture. I’ll see if I can take a picture with everything back in place.
  13. I have a red coloured Beta 43 which seems to run very well. I get a sort of tinkle noise when it’s running, not to loud but i can hear it the background. I’ve taken both alternator belts off today to replace them and clean up the dust and grime from the alternators and engine block. During this I found what I thought was an unused stud behind the large alternator. It is fitted into the engine and at first I wondered if it was a redundant fixing for a bracket or something. I tried to turn it by hand and it did move a little. Once cleaned it seems to be a lose cover over a possible breather of some kind? The cover is only about 8mm diameter and protrudes about 20mm. This could easily be the noise I have been hearing, the cover rattling. Does anybody know what this is and is there anyway to make the cover tighter so it doesn’t make a noise when the engine is running? Thanks
  14. Not sure why you need it this time of year? I have a timber frame with some acrylic glazing which I push up into the timber surround holding the hatch but Only need it when its really cold out. Are you sure you don't have a water leak somewhere?
  15. It seems paperwork was promised when the boat was purchased and none of it has been forthcoming. Your advice has followed my own thoughts and whilst appearing quite unfair on the purchaser, she should have sought advice. I don't think she will take this any further, take it on the chin as a lessons learnt. It puts her in a difficult position if she wants to sell the boat, no RCD. She will probably have to wait until the boat is confirmed as 5 years old and get a BSC. Thank you for all your input.
  16. OK, I have asked some questions. The boat was purchased by a 'totally inexperienced about boats lady' last June from a broker. The boat was sold as being 3 years old, it turns out the boat is actually 4 years old. At the time of purchase no survey was carried out as she relied on the broker being honest and the fact the boat was only 3 years old! Since owning the boat, a lot of issues have arisen and she has subsequently had to have the boat rewired because the installation was dangerous. She had a local experienced boat engineer look at the boat and he came back with a two page list of faults. Following advice she employed a surveyor to provide a report which included the same list of issues noted by the engineer. In addition she has been told by the surveyor that the boat should not have been sold by a broker without either an RCD or a BSC. My knowledge tells me that a boat 5 years old or less will require an RCD before it is sold but I was not aware a broker cannot sell without one or other. There is also the issue about age of the boat. I understand the purchaser should ensure they check everything themselves (in this case the purchaser just would not know what to check) but surely the broker should have done the same? They have received a fee for their professional services. What does the forum think?
  17. Thank you all. I am going to try and find out what the issue is. I'm sure the above will cover all eventualities!
  18. A friend of mine has recently purchased a boat and requires some specialist legal advice because there are some 'issues' Can anybody recommend a specialist legal company that deals with inland boating? Thanks

  21. Good point Tony, easily forgotten. Thanks
  22. I am all set to replace my gland packing when in dry dock in July. Once the packing has been replaced and the shroud repositioned so the shaft turns 'comfortably', how much grease should I then add in from my 'greaser'? I don't want to put in too much but also I don't want to not put in enough. Thanks
  23. Surely it depends what glue you use? I suggest you do it how you intended to do it before you asked your original question.
