  1. Just cruised past the EA guys who now have 4 machines pumping oxygen into the river and canal, two into each. Apparently their test readings show that the river oxygen levels are now back to normal but not so in the canal (yet). As we passed Winkwell there were some more EA bods testing the river and canal waters just below the lock, they said there was no sign of problems there. Didn't see any dead fish along the stretch. One guy told me the problems was caused by an 'operational issue' which caused the input filters to block which meant they had to pump into the cut as the storm tanks were full.....
  2. We're currently moored south of the sewer lock nr Bourne End. EA staff are on site after pollution entered the canal from the treatment works. Apparently the engineers were called out at 2am and have been sampling the cut and the river that flows alongside ever since and are currently running two sets of oxygenators in the river (nothing on the canal). There is a distinctly cloudy section of water in the canal about 150m long half way down the pound, no smell from it though. Luckily (so far) there are no signs of any distressed / dead fish. The same thing happened in June this year and many hundreds of fish died (didnt see it personally but know several people moored there who did). The sewage works help keep the water levels up on this section of canal but two incidents of pollution in 6 months aint good

    Exeter Canal

You'll pass it on the way down the M5, the canal at Tiverton is nice, makes a nice walk
  4. One interesting item (for me at least) from Mr Palmers response is where he says the analyst ''identified those not conforming'' and then prioritised etc etc...I'd like to know what definition of non conformance this person used and what that definition was based on. They seem to imply its very clear cut and we know its not.
  5. I've never heard of pureglow. We're in trial mode this year buying a few bags of various types, so I'll ask our two local fuel boats if they stock it and try it if they do
  6. Hi Mike Have you any experience of 'pureheat' ? We re experimenting this years and have a few bags of pureheat, supertherm and excel to try out. Les

  8. Something similar then but I guess my point is BW/Cart never translated the latin that appears in the actual law into lock/miles etc that we as boaters actually understand and from the folks I talk too that is really where the problem lays. From the Davies case the judge said moving up and down over a 10 mile patch moving every 14 days wasn't enough (well that is my understanding although I acknowledge it didnt set legal precedent) but we have never been told how big a patch we DO need to move over ? Is 30Km Carts answer to the never ending question ? From what we're hearing then a 30Km patch is ok, as long as you move on every 14 days.... that woud work on the Mpn and Brec and I dont see why this should trouble anyone
  9. When I first heard about this 30Km thing I assumed it meant 30Km from one end of the cruising range to the other end, ie you could ''shuffle up and down'' over a 30Km range stopping for 14 days in each place along the way. We always couple this to moving between 'places' each 14 day, we tend to move from one 'parish' to the next every 14 days so end up covering that 40km+ patch 3 times a year. Have never had a ticket doing this, its not unlike Jenlyns winter patter or other SE boaters pattern, would lime to see something in law or even BW interpretation that says its non complient.
  10. Hi Steve, We heard about of this '30Km' from various sources but its not mentioned in law or any of BW/Carts interpretations, that's my point I guess, many folks have just never heard of these things, they're just not online as much as most of us on here, then you get people like Higgs (and others) making it sounds like this is non complient when they have no basis to make such a statement. Confusing at best, damaging at least, certainly not helpful... Les
  11. Come on Leo, we all know that the issue has been caused by BW who have never bothered to enforce the regulations and therefore have created a problem in certain areas, do you really think by putting up a few sign posts people will change their ways ? They just need to enforce the rules, be that the new rules or the existing ones. Sledge hammer...... Les
  12. Stretching what ? Please show us something in law or even Cart/Bw version of it that shows Jenlyn's stated winter cruising pattern is not complying ?
  13. Jenlyn, If you have information about how far everyone needs to cruise every 14 days or within a 12 month period then please, please post it here. From discussing this issue over the last five years that is the main issue area of confusion for cc'ers who dont understand latin Thanks Les
  14. Hi Ray I was talking about Cowroast as an example as it was specifically mentioned in the cart spreadsheet Alan linked too. It also shows virtually all of Berkhamstead and Rickmansworth as 48hrs. Les

  16. lots of them have a GSM module that will text you in an emergency
  17. Hi Leo The short stretch from the lock to the marina, 3 boats lengths I guess, I can see your point there and wouldn't have an issue if those spots were 24 hrs giving better access to the services, the chandlery etc, yes thats probably a good idea. But I cant see why they need to alter the whole of the stretch from the marina to new ground bridge or the pound below the lock as well ? Im only banging on about this part because its a stretch we stop on whenever we pass through but its the principal of the changes in general that annoys me, the situation through Berkhamsted sounds similar. Sledgehammer to crack a nut with the bonus of creaming more cash out of us all in parking fines. Les
  18. I just don't see that we should all just suck it up without question. I'm sure Cart arent doing this on a whim, far from it, I'd guess they are trying to keep a large local hire company sweet and also trying to raise some extra cash by fining/charging people who want to stay for more than 24/48 hours, fining people for something they were allowed to do the day before. There are overstayers of all kinds all over the place, but I dont see that reducing the 14 day stays to 24 hrs etc can be the answer, enforcing the current rules would eradicate the problem. I also don't understand the point that its cheaper to enforce the short stay moorings. You still need a white cap there every day to check new arrivals so what's the difference apart from the fact you can start fining people 12 days earlier !! I do agree it will be interesting to see if Cart respond to Allan's email.
  19. So you think its paranoid to object to Cart changing 400 yards of 14 day mooring at Cowroast to 7 day or less(7 day, 48 hr and 24hr) for no apparent reason ? The law says we can stay on the tow path for upto 14 days and from the times Ive been through Cowroast there's no major problem with getting a mooring there. Having these reductions will make it harder to stay compliant, that's not paranoid its fact.
  20. I always run our Webasto on white diesel, we've had it 5 years now and have never touched, its been faultless so far. We only really use it for hot water, I also run it for just over the hours so it starts up and runs full power twice. Now that the new cleaner red diesel is available from all the work boats will I be safe using that instead of white ?
  21. The postage is as much as the device so it will probably go on the junk pile in that case.....
  22. This post sums it up, it will make it harder to stay complient and it does affect us all not just ccers. Take cowroast as an example, 200 yards below the lock and the whole way upto the newground bridge above (300 yard more?) on less than 14 days, how many hire boats do they think want to tie up for a pint at that pub ? Its a sledge hammer to crack a nut. Half that ground will be empty if its enforced, even in summer.
  23. Now you say that I seem to remember it from before, should have engaged memory before jumping on. I guess I'll let Heidi use it on her HP. I have a small low power inverter knocking about so could use that or my Dell when we dont have the large inverter on for other things. More haste less speed or something similar !
  24. I just ordered one......and I have a Dell
