  1. I have reached my quota of positive votes for the day...
  2. Your penniless pensioner will be entitled to Council Tax Relief from the Local Authority under the same criteria as the old Council Tax Benefit.
  3. I do love a nice narrative decision. I doubt he'll see it but I wish Patten LJ the best in his sailings..

  5. I've seen a few claims that the user groups will fight someone's corner, most recently in "how much" here in Living Aboard; suggesting they might have negotiated lower fees. I've not yet heard of any success stories though so thought it would be worth asking for examples; it might persuade people to join if there were evidence of their success... I appreciate their representatives might be bound by confidentiality but would suggest that they tell us whether there have been successes and encourage those individuals to share their experiences. I appreciate this might turn contentious but do not, myself, intend such; I am, however, a creature that craves evidence...
  6. There's nothing to prevent people joining Facebook, concealing their profile from public view then simply joining those groups which might be informative.
  7. Could be a bicuspid.. Depends which side the bog's on; )
  8. Well it fits the description and the pits which are down to maybe 3mm at worst are really round and regular; that's what got me thinking., it looks like something's grown there and it's too regular to persuade me it's galvanic. I can see the pits as I'm in dock at the mo but coming out tomorrow. There's about a foot of water in the bottom otherwise I'd grab some photos. I did a module on biodegradation at uni in the dim and distant past so I'd heard of metal eating bugs although they were long forgotten until parasal mentioned them. It's no biggie, I won't sink anytime soon, I need to come out again anyway as the "blacking in nearly zero temp" experiment was a disaster; most of the second coat is in the dock (but that's another thread. ), and I can prepare rather than having a nasty surprise... plus a Good pressure washing in an oxygen rich atmosphere will probably have killed it anyway. Even if it is galvanic it still needs fixing. And a coat of blacking will have stopped it in it's tracks for now. Dan BA Hons (Silver Linings) I've had an idea... drill them out, tap the holes, cap screws in and cap welded then when anyone asks pretend I gave up on the "rivets" plan when it became clear the welder was pissed
  9. My impression is it's not location specific; Parasal's base plate was affected whereas my side plates on one side were. I've usually moved a lot bar Sept 11 until March 12 when I had loads of electrical problems, then the next three months where I was stuck on a silly mooring I couldn't extricate the boat from, after that cc on the Soar then Staffs & Worcs, Shroppie &BCN, often moving weekly. n incidentally the mould at the bottom of my old mooring in Brum was very sulphurous when stirred. I'd wonder whether rust could infiltrate from below a band of epoxy at the waterline only... Dan, who can't get to his baseplate and wouldn't be able to do anything about it right now if he could...
  10. I don't disagree and had I the resources I'd jump at the chance but sadly they don't grit blast on the never never...
  11. Vivid orange on top... Check! It's blacked over for now, where would I get some stergene from and what prep will it need to fill the pits with weld? I need to find a yard to sort this out soon, probably the month after next.
  12. In this post http://www.canalworld.net/forums/index.php?showtopic=35889&view=findpost&p=642823 RLWP mentions a thread about microbial attacks on boats. I have a similar issue to this and having this eveningread Moley's thread of long ago had resigned myself to galvanic action but they were all the same size; pea size, and are all perfectly round, and the silver bits started rusting before I blacked them. Fair to say I may be prone to galvanic action but the nice round shape has me wondering... Job for tomorrow is neutral earth bonding the "temporary" inverter installation although I should point out that the shoreline is properly bonded; it's only done 3months since August 2009 though so if it's galvanic damage then it's caused by the inverter that only does a couple of hours every couple of days. The principle question is whether anyone can remember the microbiological thread? I can get the damage spot welded; as the second coat of blacking flowed mainly to the floor of the dock this morning in the cold I'll have to get her out again later this year anyway: (
  13. I have long suspected that BW /CRT wish to discourage Housing Benefit claimants from living aboard as most; certainly those with no capital, are only a breakdown away from inability to afford the lifestyle. That will become a more pressing concern with the discretionary social fund having been abolished recently.

  15. I did email the agency before I applied formally saying "this is the script" true... Edit... they spent a whole day driving me round prospective premises too: ) Hopefully I won't need to take your offer up but after the week's docking and the consequent one to come I am reminded of the meaning of B.O.A.T and second thoughts are very much in order...
  16. op I did what you want, admittedly after only 3yearsliveaboard but "look,I can prove I had a job the entire time"worked for me. You can get tablets for that!

  20. Didn't think there were laundry facilities at Fradley!
  21. I'm in next week too. The bucket of hot water trick will certainly be in use! Cheers Richard! I was hoping to delay it but it'd be the back end of summer otherwise and she really needs the bottom sorting.
  22. I've 4 bags on the roof of Sense of Freedom apparently. Don't know the boat though; any offers?
  23. Hi guys, I'll post this here... Mike Askin has dropped 4 bags of coal on "Sense of Freedom" I'm hoping it's one of the banter boats!
